This is my last year at Virginia Tech, and while I’m so excited for all the things to come, it’s a little sad that I’ll be leaving the place that’s been my home for the past few years. Although my time here is coming to an end, there is so much that I have to look forward to this year.
I hit the jackpot with my friends. For almost the whole first year, I was always kind of lost because I didn’t feel like I belonged in any friend group. I had friends but they never blended, it was always people I would hang out with separately. Then, one day, I got invited to a friend of my girlfriend’s birthday party and instantly became friends with some of the people there. It was crazy how I felt completely normal around them and wasn’t concerned that they wouldn’t like me or would think I was weird. Finding this friend group has been amazing and then it got even better when one of their friends came back from study abroad. She was a missing puzzle piece to our group. It has been so refreshing to find a friend group that is different yet similar: a group of people that gets each other and doesn’t make someone feel bad for being who they are. I’ve also met some of my greatest friends through my sorority. I got so lucky with my sorority and the friendships I have made through it. I’m so grateful for all of these people and I’m looking forward to all of the memories I’m going to make with them this year. I feel like I finally found the people that I was meant to find in college.
I’m also looking forward to all of the football and basketball games. Last year, I went to a bunch of the games with people I no longer associate with because they were not good people. They were the type of people that use others to get what they want. They were the type of people to make fun of you for getting excited over something like the HokieBird and then go and fangirl over him as if they didn’t just make fun of you. They were the type of people to pretend to like you just to treat you poorly the next day. They just weren’t good people. This year, I’m going to the games with people I actually have a good time with and people that make me feel good about myself. I’m looking forward to going to the games with my real friends instead of people who walk all over others.
There’s so much that I could sit here and talk about. I’m extremely excited to fulfill my executive positions as Membership Director for my sorority and Senior Editor for Her Campus. I’m excited for all the memories I’m going to make and all the events that are taking place this year. Even though this is my last year as a Virginia Tech student, I will always remember what it’s like to be a Hokie.
