The Best Songs From “That” Era of Disney Girl Bops

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

With Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus both recently coming out with new top hits, I was reminded of when I was first introduced to the artists. Not only were they my favorite childhood actresses (I was a die-hard Wizards of Waverly Place girly, so much so that I got Alex Russo’s bob hairstyle when Season 3 first aired in 2009), but they also released iconic bops. These pop stars and other singers from the 2000s will make you remember how prime that era really was! Hop in the car with your gal pals or blast your speaker and get ready to dance around your bedroom, because this playlist is going to take you back!

“See you again” by miley cyrus

Starting off with my favorite song from this era, which is now a go-to on my road trip playlist, “See You Again” by Miley Cyrus. Although released in October 2007, it has yet to get old! When I played it for my roommate in the car, she squealed! I memorized the lyrics the first time I heard the song, and it will be playing at my bachelorette party.

“something about the sunshine” by anna margaret and sterling knight

Although it may not be as popular as anything by Miley Cyrus, this song is still essential. Coming from the Disney Original movie Starstruck released in 2010, “Something About the Sunshine” is perfect for driving on a sunny day with your best friend! This song is the definition of good vibes.

“She’s so gone” by naomi scott

Now let me set the scene for this one: your significant other and you have just broken up, but you’re so done with them. You’re happy to be in your single era! “She’s So Gone” by Naomi Scott from Lemonade Mouth will forever be iconic! If you’ve seen the movie, we loved this scene for Mo! If you haven’t, blast this song, and you’ll totally be up to speed.

“a year without rain” by selena gomez

Now what is this list without my queen Selena Gomez? It’s quite laborious narrowing down only one of some of these singers’ best hits, so there will be some honorable mentions towards the end of this article. In 2010, Gomez released “A Year Without Rain” as a single, and I have been in a chokehold ever since. I used to sing this while on my backyard swing. It even made an appearance in the online game Wizard101, which must’ve been one of the best surprises of my childhood.

anything by ashley tisdale

Did you expect to see her on this list? Because if not, I am about to put you on to some of her most girlboss songs. For one, she has “It’s Alright, It’s OK” which is another breakup song on this list! Very empowering. Nearly impossible to not jam out to. You want one that was ahead of our time? Her “He Said She Said” music video must have been the most provocative thing on Disney Channel at the time. Sharpay Evans in skinny jeans and a vest? Maddie Fitzpatrick in the VIP Booth? We needed that.

anything by demi lovato

Do you know how good a song needs to be to make you inwardly lock your knees and expand your mouth to scream the lyrics? Refer to any Demi Lovato song from this Disney Channel era. Specifically, I am bringing up “Here We Go Again” released in 2009. I tried sending my bestie a video of me singing this song and doing her iconic singing pose, and embarrassingly enough, I couldn’t do it. Would recommend trying though. To slow it down a tad, she released a love song titled “Catch Me” also on the same album. I will be listening to this to manifest a boyfriend. Would recommend slightly less than attempting her inward knee lock.

Not only did I have the pleasure of re-introducing these songs to you all, but I also took a hot girl walk down memory lane with these bops while looking for inspiration. Note that this list is in no particular ranking, and I do sing equally as loud for each song. Some other Disney star songs I would like to list that fall within this category (aside from our one Nickelodeon star): “La La Land” by Demi Lovato, “7 Things” by Miley Cyrus, “About You Now” by Miranda Cosgrove, “He Could Be the One” by Hannah Montana, and “Hit the Lights” by Selena Gomez & The Scene.
