I remember my mom telling me, “the grass is always greener on the other side,” when I was a child. I did not know what she meant by that since I was only a kid, but now I understand what she meant. We often, including myself, compare ourselves to other people. We always think he or she is prettier, has more money, has better clothes, has a better job, and it’s normal to compare yourself to other people. We are human. What we don’t realize is that when we are comparing ourselves to other people, we are not seeing the whole picture. Every person has their own problems, but we just don’t see them because we are only looking at the surface. We never see the underneath, and sometimes it’s not real. Sometimes, the happiest people might be faking their smiles because they don’t want to show people how they are actually feeling on the inside. The confident girl might be hiding her anxiety or insecurities because she likes being known as the “confident girl.” We truly never know how someone is feeling on the inside. That’s why it’s important to be kind to everyone because you never truly know what someone is going through. Instead of comparing yourself to others, start lifting yourself up because there are so many beautiful things about being real and just being you. Michael Beckwith once said, “if the grass is greener somewhere elseā€¦.start watering your own lawn.” Self-love is so important, and everyone needs to understand that you are beautiful inside and out. Just keep watering your lawn, and you will grow into the person you want to be, and you won’t have to compare yourself to anyone anymore.Ā
