Is Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce’s Relationship Fake? Not According To This Theory

Taylor Swift has successfully won 12 Grammys, broken records for re-recording her albums, and has had the most groundbreaking tour revenue in the past year. But all of that doesn’t mean she can’t have a little fun. Swift was  spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24, cheering on her rumored new fling Travis Kelce with his mother. Swift is committed to a million and one other tasks, and attending a football game on a Sunday was definitely made a priority in her busy schedule. There has to be something going on for her to add Travis Kelce into her agenda, right? Pictures soon went viral after the game as they walked side-by-side together, but many fans were asking whether Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship is fake.

The entire relationship started from a friendship bracelet. Kelce attended an Eras Tour show at Arrowhead Stadium back in July. On his podcast New Heights, he noted that he attempted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but “she didn’t want to meet,” he said. Swifties took this and ran with it, finding more clues about the two that seemingly show they were destined to meet. It’s giving “Invisible String.”

Fans are convinced Swift “manifested” Kelce, taking it back to a 2006 song titled “Mary’s Song,” where Swift sings, “I’ll be 87, you’ll be 89.” Fans on TikTok have also found a photo of Swift back in 2013 holding up a Kelce jersey during a fan meet-and-greet. And while he was doing promo for his Catching Kelce dating show on E! back in 2016, Kelce chose Swift as his choice for “kiss” in a game of kiss, marry, kill.

Neither Swift nor Kelce’s rep have confirmed or denied these dating rumors, but some fans assume it’s a publicity stunt. One person wrote on Twitter, “Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is just the ultimate fake dating trope.” Another said, “Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce feels SO fake that I can’t bring myself to think that it’s anything but very real. You’d get kicked out of the PR club for even suggesting it.” Kelce and his brother released a documentary called Kelce on Prime Video at the beginning of September, too, so some think Kelce’s team is using Swift as publicity to bring more fans to watch the movie. But who needs a PR stunt when you’re Taylor Swift?

Fans have another reason to believe Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are end game: the Dusty Ex-Boyfriend Effect. This “effect,” or theory, says that a person will date someone that doesn’t fulfill them, followed by a quick, fun fling. After that, the person will find their forever SO.

During the spring of 2023, Swift ended a longtime relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. Months later, she got into an out-of-the-blue relationship with Matty Healy, the singer of The 1975. They broke it off in June 2023, which would make Matty Healy the messy, not-so-serious relationship after her long-term, heartbreaking relationship. You know what that means? Travis Kelce is husband material.

If Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship is indeed real, fans will be watching the Kansas City Chiefs play until the endgame.
