I’ve lived on campus throughout undergrad and grad school, and my unspoken rule has always been “my space is my sanctuary.” Every year, I go all out. I reference multiple college packing lists despite having done it before to make sure that my dorm is equipped with the right decor and products so that I can be comfortable and enjoy living there. As a self-proclaimed homebody, I do most of my work in and generally spend a lot of time in my dorm so it needs to be comfortable, and let’s face it, sometimes dorm spaces need a little TLC to make them feel homey.
But sprucing up your dorm can be expensive. Luckily, Amazon is back with its Amazon Prime Big Deal Days on Oct. 10 and 11. Exclusive to Amazon Prime members, the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days event offers two days’ worth of amazing deals. And If I’m being honest, a little retail therapy, when done right, in the middle of the semester never hurts.
- Area Rug
-
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is how much of a difference adding a rug to your room can make. It makes the space feel more homey and elevates it. This Shaggy Area Rug by PAGISOFE ($21) offers the perfect cozy vibes for your dorm.
- Throw Blanket
-
A must in all of my dorms has been a throw blanket. Whether I’m using it on the couch or in bed, I’ve needed a blanket with me. This throw blanket ($16) adds an extra layer of comfort to your bed and is the perfect option for getting cozy with a great book or during those in-between class power naps.
- Mattress Topper
-
Besties, you and I know that those college mattresses are not peak comfort. I went two years without a topper because they were expensive, but it’s such a great investment. This twin XL mattress topper ($34) is the perfect Prime Day deal and trust me, your sleep is about to get an upgrade.
- Storage Baskets
-
Living in a space means getting creative with storage options. Whether you live in a single or share a dorm room with roommates, storage shouldn’t be a hassle, especially in your closet. These storage baskets ($22) let you organize your closet while saving space and they come in various color combinations to fit your dorm aesthetic.
- Coffee Maker
-
If there’s one thing I’m glad I purchased my freshman year, it’s my Keurig Coffee Maker ($50). It’s been my ride-or-die for the past five years and has been a real money saver. I’m able to make quality coffee at home and with midterm season coming up, what better tool is there to help you be an absolute academic weapon?
- Satin Pillowcase
-
If you really want to elevate your bedroom, do yourself a favor and get a satin pillowcase set ($10). It may seem excessive but it will help keep your hair safe during the night and can also help keep your skin clear and happy.
- Bedside Lamp
-
Tired of the fluorescent overhead light? Me too, which is why I have a total of five different bedside and table lamps. Not only do bedside lamps offer an alternative lighting option but they make your room feel so much more homey. Do yourself a favor and grab this bedside lamp ($20) at an amazing deal.
- Shower Slippers
-
After a long day of classes and study sessions, there really isn’t a better way to unwind than a hot shower. But shared shower rooms are not glamorous and we all know that shower shoes are a must. These comfortable Pillow Slippers ($20) will help keep your feet protected and it helps that they’re comfortable and stylish.
- Wireless Earbuds
-
I never go anywhere without my earbuds. They’re perfect for college students on the go or if you need to tune out the noises of a cafe or get into the zone at the library. They can be a bit expensive, but if you’re in the market for a new pair, try these Beats Powerbeats Pro Earbuds ($150).
- Printer
-
Now, this may seem a little over the top especially since academic halls and libraries have printers. But have you ever been getting ready for bed and realized at midnight that you have a document you need to print for your 8 a.m. class? Buying a printer ($40) is totally an optional purchase, but it’ll go a long way, especially when you don’t have time to run to campus.
- Sunrise Alarm Clock
-
This Sunrise Alarm Clock that doubles as a night light ($30) will help you get up for your 8 a.m. easily. Because let’s be honest, it’s that time of the year when you begin to regret your decision of signing up for an 8 a.m. class.
- Laundry Hamper
-
When I found a mesh laundry hamper ($7) two years ago, I struck gold. It has made doing laundry in college so much easier. The collapsible feature makes it easy to store and transport. It’s served me well throughout all my laundry adventures and is still standing strong.
- Essential Oil Diffuser
-
If you’re living in a dorm that doesn’t allow candles but you still want your room to smell amazing, get yourself an essential oil diffuser ($21). They are a perfect alternative and you’ll be able to mix and match scents to create your own signature scent.
