Fall is easily my favorite time of year. Being born on October 31st, I feel a special connection to everything related to “spooky season.” The chilly temperatures, cable knit sweaters and beautiful leaves will always be a comfort to me. Since attending college, I noticed that a lot of traditions I did at home, I am unable to do while at school. Carving pumpkins is too messy for a dorm room, without a car, apple picking is nearly impossible. But, to bring fall vibes back into my life, I learned to get creative.

Fun fall activities to do while on campus include:

  1. Painting pumpkins. Carving pumpkins can be a hassle, and getting all of the materials is harder than you think. When painting a pumpkin, you can control your mess and still make something that relates to spooky season.
  2. Go for a walk! The temperature is perfect for a walk, so you won’t get too hot or too cold. The foliage is so beautiful and walking around campus can make you more familiar with parts of campus you don’t usually go to. It is also great easy exercise!
  3. Watch a Halloween movie. There is nothing better than getting under a cozy blanket with some hot apple cider and watching a good Halloween movie. Some of my favorites are Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Ghostbusters, Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
  4. Cook something with your friends. This could be as simple as the Pillsbury pumpkin cookies or a recipe you find online. There are thousands of Halloween recipes out there, and maybe you can find one and try something new!
  5. Make a playlist. This could be listened to while you are cooking or going on your walk. It can be Halloween-themed or just any music you feel fits the vibe of the occasion. Some Halloween songs I love are “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Monster Mash” by Goofy, “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell and “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr.
  6. Brainstorm Halloween costumes with your friends. TikTok is a great place to find inspiration for the cutest Halloween costumes. Another tip is to mix and match costumes with your friends, then you can cut down on costs when buying costumes!

Try out these activities and make the most of spooky season on campus!
