“What’s a girl gonna do? A diamond’s gotta shine..” are the lyrics that perfectly describe Taylor Swift’s striking essence in 2023. Her U.S and Latin America section of the “Eras Tour” alone has amassed $380 billion, setting a soaring record for the highest-earning tour of the year, and the largest grossing musical tour of the U.S. Performing in 56 stadiums, each show had an average of 72,459 fans showing up in their most creative album-inspired outfits.
Even still, there were numerous fans, like myself, who were sadly not able to attain tickets and watch their biggest pop idol live.
However, the fear of missing out was diminished back in September, when Taylor announced the premier of her own concert film titled “The Eras Tour” to be released on October 13 of 2023. This past weekend, the film was released in local theaters such as AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, and the movie has already created huge noise for valid reasons. The new film is remarkable on its own, as $93 million tickets have been sold in the first four days of being released.
In particular, the Eras Tour film has bonded Taylor Swift even closer to her fans as it made her lucrative and highly expensive tour more accessible. On average, a ticket to the live show could’ve cost anywhere from $100-$499, and a VIP package anywhere from $199-$899. On the other hand, a ticket to see the film cost right below $20. Now fans in every city of the country are dressing up, trading friendship bracelets, and receiving mini posters as a token of the live concert experience brought to everyone locally.
The film went viral on tik-tok, and fans were taped singing and dancing along to the three-hour music set brought to the big screens. I personally went to go watch the film on opening weekend, and it truly felt like such an exciting and magical experience as the high quality cinematography and sound made me feel as if I were actually in LA’s dazzling Sofi Stadium. Almost all of the songs Taylor sang live made it onto the final cut of the film, queuing all her ten albums:Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now,Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights. To a huge swiftie fan since 2008, the film was incredibly nostalgic not only visually, but audibly, because it brought back all the memories of different stages of my life that I have grown up listening to these albums. Between country, pop, and folk-indie, there is an “era” of Taylor Swift music that anyone can enjoy and that is what makes the concert film so universally entertaining for all people and ages. Without a doubt, I would recommend any fan who was not able to attend the actual concert to go hit up their local theater for a lively experience.
