Fall is coming around, which means haircut season. This time of year, for me, is the yearly tradition when I chop off a few inches of my hair for the fall vibes. The beginning of fall to me is like the beginning of Yale for Rory in Gilmore Girls, which means the short hair is in and the long hair is out. Many people may be wondering; Alix Earle did it so is it my turn?
The Fall Cut is not without it’s faults, and here are a few things to remember before you decide to do the big chop.
Bad Hair Day Covers
For the ponytail and bun people of the world, the cut may not be for you. Cutting your hair too short may mean you can’t pull all of it up, and there’s always a few pieces hanging out. Claw clips and ponytails may not be your best friend right after you cut your hair. Until then, the half up half down look may be much easier to achieve.
Hair Texture
Coming from a curly hair girl, always think about your hair texture when cutting your hair. When I’ve just recently cut mine it always seems ten times shorter after I wash it. Even though I cut my hair when it’s curly, the weight of your hair can completely determine how much it curls and how it lays. Less hair means less weight, which means that every time I cut one inch off my hair it looks more like two. Anyone with some type of textured hair is going to have to take this into account when cutting their hair.
Time
Yes hair grows back, but that takes some time. Know how long your hair normally takes to grow just incase you absolutely hate your haircut. Also, remember the amount of time it takes to normally do your hair, because the shorter your hair is, the less amount of time it will take to style it. In contrast, the more dimension you add to your hair, like bangs, the longer it will take to style. Shorter hair for me always means less time blowing it out and straightening it, and the cool air of fall means less frizz.
Hair Product
The shorter your hair is, the less hair product you use, the less money you spend. Pretty simple except with shorter hair sometimes you may need to use different products to get those desired effects. Just be ready to switch up your normal routine.
The Look
If you fully believe that only certain face shapes can suit certain hairstyles, go for it. I’m more here for the look I want to go for rather than my face shape. I believe that with shorter hair I look more mature and studious, and with longer hair I look more fun. Same face, but different vibes with different hairstyles. If you want a certain look for the fall, a haircut may bring that all together.
All in all, hair grows back and changes throughout your lifetime. If you’re feeling like you need to switch something up, maybe it’s time for the fall cut. It’s only temporary!
