It’s about that time of year when the temperature starts getting colder, and it’s raining and snowing all the time. As a college student, one of the best things to do when bored is to go outside in nature. As the seasons change, that gets a lot harder. In this article, I will provide you with some ideas for what to do when you’re bored and the weather isn’t great.
- study date at a cafe
-
Study dates are the perfect things to do in college, whether it’s with friends or with a partner. Especially at a cozy cafe, this can be very helpful, as you can get your work done, and also have an aesthetic, Gilmore Girls type of day. z
- Redecorate your Room
-
Sometimes, being in the same space can get repetitive, and you can lose motivation. Why not redecorate your dorm/room space, it can be fun to think of ideas and explore! Here is a link to one of my past articles on ways to decorate your room.
- Create a board game with your friends
-
This is something I did last year with my friends, and it was so fun! Thinking of ideas and decorating your game can be a great way to pass the time. Also, you will have new games to play, for cheap! You can buy poster boards for $1 at any dollar store or CVS.
- Learn a new song on your instrument
-
If you play any instrument, whether it’s piano, guitar, or even the recorder, you can learn a new song and master it!
- Try ORIGAMI
-
One day last year, I got super bored and made about 20 paper swans for my friends. This was very stress relieving, and you can find many simple origami tutorials on YouTube or Wikipedia.
- Movie marathon
-
Movie marathons are one of the most popular things to do when the weather has been bad. Harry Potter and Star Wars are some great examples of marathons to watch, alone or with friends!
- Karaoke Night
-
Whether it’s with your friends, or at a bar that hosts, karaoke night can be a fun plan to make on a cold, rainy night.
- Practice your Duolingo
-
Most people have downloaded Duolingo at one point in their lives, and then either forget about it or lose motivation. If you are super bored, why not pick up where you left off, or learn a new language?
- Dance party!!!!
-
Grab your speaker or headphones and blast your favorite songs! Dancing can relieve stress and provide exercise when you don’t want to walk to the gym in the rain.
- Play a video game
-
Whether it’s Mario Kart, Minecraft, or Call of Duty, playing video games can be a fun way to pass the time.
- Learn a new hairstyle or makeup look
-
One of my favorite things to do when I’m bored is to try a new hairstyle and be creative with makeup looks.
- Listen to a podcaSts
-
If you enjoy crime stories or just entertaining events from other people’s lives, there are many podcasts on Spotify or YouTube to listen to! (My favorite is “Serial” by Sarah Koenig.)
- Learn a new recipe
-
If you have a kitchen or even a microwave, try cooking up a new recipe!

-
You don’t have to post anything, but sometimes learning new TikTok dances can be fun!

Especially with not being able to go outside, distressing can be a difficult task. There are many guided meditations on YouTube that you can listen to. My favorite channel is EdiyaASMR.
- Selfcare night
-
These are some of my favorite nights. Paint your nails, clean your area, put on a face mask, and just relax! You deserve it!
- Go through old photos
-
Take out your memory box, or just go through your camera roll and snap memories. Nostalgia!
- Do the wordle
-
Especially when I’m procrastinating my homework, my roommate and I will have a competition to see who can get the Wordle first!
- Create a new music playlist
-
Create a new playlist with some of your favorite songs! Or create multiple playlists for each of your different moods.
- Get ahead on your work
-
I know this isn’t the most fun thing to do, but if you are stuck inside and bored, why not get ahead on your schoolwork or projects, so when there is a nice day, you don’t have to worry about falling behind?
