TikTok is quick, y’all. Just days after Taylor Swift released the vault track “Now That We Don’t Talk” as part of her 1989 (Taylor’s Version) album on Oct. 27, fans have already shared on social media how the song parallels with their own lives. It’s common knowledge by this point that Swift’s the queen of writing impact bridges for her songs and the biting climax of “Now That We Don’t Talk” is no exception. The lyrics “I don’t have to pretend I like acid rock / Or that I’d like to be on a mega yacht / With important men who think important thoughts” hit home for many fans and are full of sass.Â
It’s widely speculated that Swift originally wrote this lyrical masterpiece about Harry Styles, whom she briefly dated from 2012 to 2013. But people have started connecting this song to their own experiences with exes and ex-BFFs, by sharing things they no longer have to deal with after cutting certain people out of their lives.Â
- Defending their BFF’s character
-
Having to walk on eggshells around your supposed best friend is a nightmare, and I’m so glad this creator got out of that toxic situation.
- Supporting their BFF who’s caught up in an affair
-
Double yikes. Not only is her former friend knowingly having an affair with a married man, but he’s also at least a couple of decades older than them.Â
- having to hide their true selves
-
Swift herself has said that “the worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb or stupid for being excited about something,” and it looks like some BFFs don’t take that to heart. I hope this creator has since found better friends.
- Hearing jokes that are just straight-up mean
-
Some people really need to learn that there’s a fine line between harmless joking and bullying.Â
- Cheering on a baseball boy
-
I can’t be the only one who related to this TikTok hard. Sports guys are truly a different breed.Â
- Watching him flirt with your friends in front of you
-
I knew this one was going to be bad the second she mentioned he was a Fortnite player.Â
- Putting up with comments that really weren’t funny
-
I can understand an obsession with cars, to an extent… but based on the second part? Girl, you really are better off.Â
- Meeting up in private because everyone knew he had multiple girlfriends
-
If you know you’re being cheated on, all I can say is RUN.Â
- Never getting paid back and having to comfort him after being screamed at
-
From that Sydney FC tattoo she mentioned, the red flags just kept popping up.Â
- Watching them disrespect their mom
-
Whoever said that you can tell a lot about a guy by how he treats his mom wasn’t wrong.Â
