Let’s be real, we all have those songs that we can listen to a thousand times and they never get old. But there are also some songs that we definitely get sick of listening to, especially when they are overplayed. And there are even a select few songs that have not hit since the first time we heard it. As I’m getting further into my college years, I’ve begun picking up on the same music that has played throughout the plenty of experiences I’ve had at frat parties. Over time I have established which songs are bops and which ones flop.Â
Let’s start with the Flops
- Fire Burning by Sean Kingston
-
I was never a huge fan of this one, and it is also sooo old. It’s from 2009! The song itself is just a little silly and does not match the frat vibe. Let’s take this one off the playlist, please.
- Temperature by Sean Paul
-
Another super old song from 2005. In my opinion, Temperature is never the vibe I’m going for. I feel like the music is really inconsistent, like how am I supposed to dance to that? It’s a flop for me.
- Love Story (that remix one, you know what I’m talking about) by Taylor Swift
-
This is a super hot take, I apologize, but I am not a swiftie. But regardless of that, this is one of those songs where you first listen to it and you’re thinking okay great, we love a good throwback! But once it is played for the thousandth time, you are completely over it. This song is just way too overplayed for me.
- Shots by LMFAO
-
Okay, I will admit that this song is so funny. Thank you LMFAO, but “SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS” gets old so quick. I’m begging these frats to get this one off the playlist.
Now onto the Bops
- No Hands by Waka Flocka Flame
-
The ULTIMATE frat song. Absolute banger throughout the entire song. Enough said.
- Pursuit of Happiness Extended Steve Aoki Remix by Kid Cudi
-
The amount of serotonin this song pumps into my brain is unmatched. It is just so good and hits every time.Â
- Like a G6 by Far East Movement
-
When thinking about what a college party would be like at the ripe age of 14, this is the song that I thought would be playing. It’s been slaying since 2010 and it is such a fun song to dance to.Â
- Everytime We Touch by CascadaÂ
-
I have loved this song forever, and it’s a song that almost anyone will know the words to. In fact, I want to hear this one even more.
Although my ranking of some of these songs might be a hot take, I feel like it is a pretty fair list. These bops are college party necessities, and the flops are certainly not. I do give our frat DJ’s (if that’s what we want to call them) credit because I know it can’t be easy to please everyone’s music taste. They have conjured up some pretty decent playlists, but we have to change it up once in a while, guys! Music is something that I could discuss for hours, and I wonder what songs other people would consider as their bops or flops. It’s crazy to think that someday we are going to laugh looking back on those staple songs that will remind us of college!
