As someone whose college study habits have progressively become more dependent on caffeine and a desire for changes of scenery and cool environments rather than actual productive studying, I have visited almost every coffee shop in Hoboken. Here are a few of my personal favorite spots to sip and study:
- Jefferson’s Coffee
A classic Steven’s student staple, I love running to Jefferson’s in between classes for a quick coffee fix. The ambiance of the back room and unique seating design, paired with some of Hoboken’s cheapest coffee prices (and student discounts! – flavored iced coffee is below $4), and ample sweet treat options make this shop an overall winner. Personally, I am also a big fan of the window peeking into the perfect little courtyard (and the courtyard).
- Bwè Kafe
I love Bwè. You can find me studying here with a dirty iced chai at five-hour intervals. The overall environment (good lighting, lots of table space) and great music help encourage my studying, and the outside benches and tables provide great study spots on a nice day. I love all of their coffee, but their seasonal coffee options (particularly the Blueberry Cobbler and Apple Pie Cold Brews) are definitely worth mentioning.
- The Roost Outpost
Hidden on 1st Street, the Roost Outpost is a bit of a walk from campus, but its rustic interior, leather couch, and frequent flow of dogs make it worth the trip. I like studying here on rainy days listening to the Lumineers and sipping a Hot Apple Cider. It is never too crowded and the coffee is fantastic.
- The Hive
I need to start off by saying that the Green Apple Matcha is the best matcha combination I have ever had. Other reasons I love The Hive…
1. The prices vary, but you can always get a small iced coffee below $4.
2. Crazy epic sweet treats.
3. So. much. space. Usually, coffee shops are suffocating, loud, and tight. The Hive has high ceilings, plenty of natural lighting, and twice the amount of seating space as the average Hoboken coffee shop.
- Yuki’s Cafe and Coffee
As most Hoboken babysitters know, the Monroe Center is the hub of child life in Hoboken. If you’re waiting around and need a little pick-me-up, look no further than Yuki’s. Yuki’s has a full coffee menu (very delicious) and a bakery section with hard-to-find home-baked sweet and savory treats (PIE! Cake! Cookies! Bread!) It’s a very small shop, but there are benches and tables to sit and is never too crowded.
