The SAG-AFTRA strike finally ended after 118 days, and during that time, actors from the union were not allowed to act or promote their projects. With the strike being over, many companies have released trailers, and actors can finally talk about their projects. Here are a few films to consider watching.
Emerald Fennell is an actress and filmmaker, and her latest project, “Saltburn,” has been gaining traction. The movie follows Oxford student Oliver Quick, who finds himself befriending popular student Felix Catton, but things aren’t as they might seem. Quick, after getting an invitation to stay over at Catton’s during the summer, will soon realize just what a mess he’s gotten himself into. The star-studded cast includes Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Ewan Mitchell and many more. This psychological thriller was released on Nov. 17, 2024, in the U.S., and then worldwide on Nov. 24, 2023. It’s a movie that will definitely be something to look forward to.
“Inside Out,” released on June 16, 2015, and produced by Pixar Animation Studios, was an instant hit with audiences. Critics loved the animation style as well as the emotional story of a preteen girl named Riley as she navigates the challenges of growing up and dealing with the new emotions that come with it. With the release of the new teaser trailer for “Inside Out 2,” fans are just as excited as they were when the first movie came out. According to the teaser trailer, we will be following a now-teen Riley as she gets brand new emotions, with one making an appearance in the teaser. This new emotion is Anxiety. If you wish to know the other emotions, the movie will be released on June 14, 2024.
Sony Pictures will be releasing a female-led Spider-Man movie directed by S.J. Clarkson, set to be released on February 14, 2024. “Madame Web” will follow paramedic Cassandra Webb, who, after an accident, comes to have abilities that allow her to see into the future. Webb will use her new abilities as she joins forces with three other girls as they deal with a mysterious man who seems to be on the hunt for them. This movie also has an amazing cast with stars like Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and more. If you love Spider-Man and the Spider-Verse, this movie is worth watching.
Paramount Pictures released a trailer for the new Mean Girls movie. The movie will follow the original with the cliques of high school groups, such as the popular girls and boyfriend drama with Cady Heron falling for Regina George’s ex-boyfriend, which would put her at odds with Regina. The twist is that the movie will be a musical like the Broadway play from 2018. Directed by Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne, the movie is set to be released on Jan. 12, 2024. The cast includes Reneé Rapp, Angourie Rice, and Bebe Wood, as well as actors from the original, such as Tina Fey and Tim Meadows.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” follows “War for the Planet of the Apes,” released in 2017. The film will be set decades into the future when most of humanity has either been wiped out or sent into hiding. Caesar, an ape who has been loved by audiences, must go on a journey with a human girl as conflicts arise. The conflict will follow another ape leader who plans on building an empire. Caesar will be forced to think of not only his kind but also humankind. Directed by Wes Ball, the film is set to be released on May 24, 2024.
These five upcoming movies caught my attention, and maybe one of them even caught yours. Hopefully, you and your friends will take the time to go support the actors and directors in these films in theaters upon their release.
