It’s Wednesday and we’re definitely wearing pink for this news. With the musical film adaptation of Mean Girls hitting theaters on Jan. 12, the anticipation is growing for the film. Many can’t wait to return to Northshore High with a brand new cast, which fans have been talking about since the official trailer was released on Nov. 8. In fact, one of the most talked about parts of the upcoming film is none other than fan-favorite actress and singer, Renée Rapp, who’s playing queen bee, Regina George. Rapp has proven to be one of the defining voices of 2023 with her debut album Snow Angel and the sold-out Snow Hard Feelings tour.
This version of Mean Girls will be different for a wide variety of reasons, with musical numbers not included. With a brand new cast, a contemporary setting, and even some familiar faces, fans have also been anticipating hearing the Mean Girls soundtrack. In the original 2003 soundtrack, there was not a song specifically made for the movie. However, we will be getting Mean Girls-inspired tracks for the 2024 adaptation of Mean Girls — and one of the songs is performed by Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion.
Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion are releasing their song “Not My Fault” on Dec. 15.
I’m screaming over this. On Dec. 13, Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion revealed their upcoming collaboration on Instagram by sharing the cover of their new single, “Not My Fault.” The cover art shows the duo in a room full of plastic mannequins (hence The Plastics in Mean Girls) that are dressed up as none other than Regina George herself.
Megan Thee Stallion is wearing an all-pink ensemble while Rapp dones a black top and see-through skirt. In the caption, Rapp wrote, “not my fault with @theestallion for @meangirls out this friday,” confirming that the single will be dropping on Dec. 15 and will commence the start of the Mean Girls era.
I have to say it, but this cover photo is so fetch.
There will be more new music from Rapp on the Mean Girls soundtrack.
In a Dec. 13 interview with Fandango, writer and producer Tina Fey confirmed that Rapp has been listed as a co-writer on some of the new songs on the Mean Girls soundtrack. It’s not clear which songs Rapp is credited on, but if the tracks are anything like the ones on her Snow Angel album, we’re guaranteed to have some hits on our hands.
It’s clear that the audience is highly anticipating seeing Rapp’s performance as Regina George in the film, and can’t wait to hear new music from her as we step into a new Mean Girls era.
