It’s 2014, “The Love Club” by Lorde is playing while you’re watching an extremely high-contrast montage intro of girls wearing pastel outfits, running around Santa Monica Pier with colorful chalk bombs. They are living the most aesthetically pleasing lifestyle. Fast forward, it’s ten years later, and you were just listening to “The Love Club” on your 2014 nostalgia playlist and reminiscing about the past. Except, this is a current reality again! It’s official: we’re bringing the 2014 aesthetic back!
fashion
The style associated with the year 2014 WILL go down in history books, and I am full-heartedly excited to educate my children on this complex topic.
Just to name a few of the most memorable styles of the year: stripes and black were everywhere (like this iconic picture), monochromatic looks had a moment, off-the-shoulder tops and sweaters were included in every mall haul video, leather jackets topped every outfit, and owning every color of high-top Converse would put you in the style hall of fame.
These all sound eerily familiar because they are all coming back in style. Are chokers next?
Revival of Taylor Swift’s “1989”
We can never forget the chokehold that “1989” had on us and the YouTube community in 2014. Thanks to Taylor’s Version …. we can relive this glory!
Casual selfies and highly filtered photos featuring Victoria’s Secret bags and pastel drinks. And don’t forget the faux fur! Addison Rae’s recent Instagram post is the epiphany of the 2024 version of 2014 Instagram.
DIYs
In 2014, you could not escape DIY videos on YouTube. Today, we are still doing this. Yes – by adding bows to EVERYTHING imaginable.
from 2014 Fujifilm Polaroid Cameras to 2024 Film Cameras
The pretty pastel Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 polaroid cameras were all the rage in 2014. I nearly died from tears of joy when my late photographer grandpa bought me one for my fifth-grade promotion. Today, we are still eager to capture fun moments on film cameras rather than our phones.
Relive your nostalgic memories
