If you’re anything like me, you struggle during the winter season to find light in the bleak, dark days. It’s cold, it’s gray, and all you want to do is lock yourself in your room and curl up under the covers. At least, I do. But this year, I’m trying my very hardest to enjoy wintertime and make the most of the season. Here are some things I’m incorporating into my everyday routine to brighten even the dimmest of days.
- create a morning/afternoon ritual like drinking tea

Having a set time of day for a ritual like teatime gives you something to look forward to and structure your day around. I like tea in particular because it’s hot and doesn’t have caffeine (at least the ones I buy) so I can enjoy it at any time of day. My favorite is the peppermint one from Trader Joe’s.
- find time in the day for an outdoor walk

Take advantage of the sun while it’s out! Incorporating a time to get fresh air and some vitamin D can drastically improve your mental health. Listening to music is okay, but really try to stay off of your phone and pay attention to your surroundings.
- do a closet cleanout

There’s no better time for a closet cleanout than the beginning of a new year. By cleanout, I mean literally try on every piece of clothing you own and if you don’t like it/it doesn’t fit, donate it or get rid of it. I cleaned out my closet a couple of weeks ago and it is the most rewarding feeling to actually like and wear every piece of clothing I own.
- host a game night/dinner party with friends

I hosted a dinner party with two friends a few weeks ago and it was so much fun! I made a menu using Canva to send to them and spent the whole afternoon cooking the meal. If you’re not big on cooking, a game night would be equally as fun. Both are great ways to spend quality time with the people you love.
- bake bread/desserts from scratch

Not only is this a fun indoor activity to pass the time, but you get to reap the rewards and eat your creation! Plus, the smell of baked goods is unmatched during the wintertime. I’m looking forward to making muffins and scones in the upcoming weeks.
