I have been so blessed in my life to have made so many great friends. It can be hard to find those people that you really truly trust, especially in college when everyone is so new. Obviously, I am not the expert, and everybody wants different things from their friendships… but here are some of the things I figured out are most important to me in the people that I call my best friends.

Good Conversation

This is something that is so simple but is genuinely so important to me. My best friend from home and I can do absolutely nothing and talk for hours on end, somehow never getting bored. I love spending quality time with my friends talking about our lives, families, future, and everything under the sun. I do really think this is one of the most important things in a friendship because you want to be able to have a good time doing anything, not just partying or going out, because that isn’t what real life always looks like.

Trust

I think trust is something so core to every friendship because you want to share things with your friends that you wouldn’t with others. And you want somebody who you know will always have your back no matter what. Someone who smiles to your face but talks behind your back is something I am always afraid of in friendships because I have experienced it and it is an awful feeling.

Not Censoring Yourself

I think it is so important to have people around you where you truly can be yourself and feel all of your emotions. You can be sad or mad or excited and never feel embarrassed for who you are. Being able to feel completely comfortable, open, and honest with people is so rare, but it is an amazing feeling.

Support

This is ESSENTIAL to friendships because when bad things happen or you have a hard day, having someone to talk to or just around be so important. Knowing someone cares about what you are feeling can make the situation feel 10 times better. I am eternally grateful to my friends that have been there for me over the years because I don’t know how I could have done it without them.

Friends Who Bring You Happiness

While support and trust are so crucial to friendships, sometimes it’s also important to have people who lighten the mood and have a good time. It doesn’t have to be so serious all the time. Find the people that make you excited, make you laugh, and that you genuinely love being around.

Bringing Out Your Best Qualities

I love surrounding myself with people who share values and goals in life. People who will push you to be better and want to succeed together. People who always lift you up and never want to bring you down. And people who celebrate your successes. These are the best kinds of people and I am so lucky to say I have found some <3

OVERALL, there are so many amazing people out there who will love you and always be there for you and I really hope this list helps!
