The Year of Thee Stallion

On Friday, Feb. 2, Megan Thee Stallion took to her Instagram to celebrate that she and Warner Music Group have signed a first-of-a-kind deal for record distribution as a recording artist after legal battles that allowed her to part ways with her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. And it’s Black History Month; we love to see it.

In a three-slide carousel, Thee Stallion writes “Hotties today HISSTORY was made… I maintain my INDEPENDENCE as an artist anddd OWN MY MASTERS AND PUBLISHING.”

This good news is one of many things the three-time Grammy Award-winning rapper has to celebrate. Exactly one week before this announcement, she independently dropped a new single titled “HISS” that sent shockwaves through the music industry and initiated a social media meltdown from Nicki Minaj, who then wrote a questionable “diss track” in response.

In October, Thee Houston Hottie announced via Instagram Live that she would be producing music and music videos using her own coins, and she was excited to move forward with her own production company, Hot Girl Productions.

She said, “We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets… Motherf—ing Hot Girl Productions! The next s— y’all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain and Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We are in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one.”

Since July 2020, Megan has unfortunately been the recipient of misogynoir, victim-blaming, and hate following the accusation, trial, and conviction of Canadian singer-songwriter Tory Lanez for shooting her in the foot. Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in jail for assaulting her, and while she has publicly received support from the likes of Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and Jidenna, others were not so kind and mocked her despite this traumatic experience.

In “Circo Loco,” a song released in Nov. 2022 by Drake and 21 Savage on their album titled “Her Loss,” Drake says: “This ***** lie ‘bout getting shots, but she still a stallion / She don’t even get the joke but she still smiling,” which fans have speculated was directed toward Megan.

This did not go unaddressed, as the talented rapper got her lick back in “HISS” with the lines: “These n– hate on BBLs and be walkin’ ’round with the same scars (Ah),” and “Cosplay gangsters, fake-a** accents / Posted in another n– hood like a bad b– (Where are you from?).”

The “same scars” refers to a shirtless photo Drake posted to his Instagram story that raised speculations on whether or not he’s had a body-sculpting procedure done. There’s also a long-running joke that Drake takes on too many accents in his music, which would have someone who isn’t privy to his origins questioning where he’s from.

Champagne Papi has been really quiet ever since Meg dropped!

It’s obvious that Thee Stallion has been healing and is getting to the bag, and there is no stopping her now. 2024 looks very bright for the 28-year-old artist with an even brighter future ahead of her.

During a Good Morning America appearance on Tuesday, Jan. 30, Megan Thee Stallion announced she has an album on the way, set to release ahead of a summer tour she’ll be headlining.

“So this is going to be the first time that I drop an album on time for the summer. I do want to give the hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience,” she shares excitedly.

She and Planet Fitness announced a partnership with gym apparel and a campaign where she stars as “Mother Fitness” in their gyms, she’s been listed as a presenter at the 2024 Crunchy Roll Anime Awards held in Tokyo for her love of anime, she’s collaborated with Renee Rap on “Not My Fault” for ‘Mean Girls: The Musical,’ and she’s also been promoting the 2024 Paris Olympics Games, or as she calls it, “Thee Paris Olympics, Hot Girl Style.”

Although the last few years have been rough for Megan thee Stallion, she’s taken the time she needed to heal and come back stronger than ever. Whatever 2024 has in store for her, we know that it’s well-deserved because her girl’s girl personality, amazing work ethic, and pen speak for themselves.

We’re proud of you Megan, and they could never make me hate you!
