There is the age-old debate of what the best holiday is — and of course, the major contenders are brought up. But one of my favorite underrated holidays will always be Super Bowl Sunday.
There is something so exciting about a holiday that is meant to be pure fun and entertainment. There is something to the day for everyone, starting from the setup of the actual Super Bowl, for the sports lovers, there is the actual game that you get to focus on. For the ones that aren’t really interested in the game, they get to look forward to watching the halftime show and make predictions about who the artist is going to bring out, what they’re going to wear, and what song they’ll choose to open with. And for those who don’t care for either, then you get to just get some entertainment out of the unique Super Bowl commercials!
There is also something relaxing about the casual dress code that is set up for Super Bowl Sunday. There’s no pressure to find a new dress, or to think about how you’re going to do your hair because it’s just another day. If you want to, you also have the option to wear a comfortable jersey and some team merch (it’s the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs this year!). Even if you are not a football fan any other day of the year, you get to pick a side and get invested.
The overall environment of the event is also amazing because you can make a day out of it, or just stay home and put on in the background. In the case that you do want to make it a celebration, it’s one of the few holidays that you get to choose the people you spend it with, meaning all of your friends can be there and there are no awkward interactions with distant family members. There is never a dull moment on Super Bowl Sunday, in the time periods where the game is on, everyone gets to focus on that, root for a team together, stand in silence when the game is close. Then when it’s over there is a built-in conversion topic for the rest of the night.
Hopefully, I’ve convinced you that Super Bowl Sunday is a severely underrated American holiday, and hopefully next Sunday you tune in and get to spend time with your favorite people, eat some fun Super Bowl foods, and get an eventful, relaxing day out of it.
