First, you may wonder what a Super Bowl is and who is playing. A Super Bowl is where two of the best teams in the conference face off for a national championship. Both teams won their prospective conferences to get onto the big Super Bowl stage. This year’s matchup is between the Kansas City Chiefs (who are the reigning champions) and the San Francisco 49ers. A special event that the Super Bowl event has is the wonderful commercials during the game and the halftime show. This year’s halftime will feature Usher.

We are excited for Usher! This is a long-awaited time for Usher to shine. Maybe he will bring his great friend Justin Bieber for a surprise appearance or even invite Travis Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, to perform! We’re excited about the halftime show, but we have to watch the football game before the show.

First, the outstanding players we need to look out for on both teams would be Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce on the Chiefs, as they are considered two of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the playoffs with the most scores of all time. On the 49ers, Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffery. This will be a very close game, as both teams have great assets that will help them succeed.

Let’s go through how the game is played and its rules so we understand. Some important positions to take note of are the Quarterback (the person who throws the ball) and the receivers (who catch the ball), and on Defense, there are Tackles, Safeties, and Linebackers (these guys try to stop the offense). There will always be 11 players on the field for each team for offense and defense.

Each team has four downs (four chances) to get a first down. The defense has to prevent the opposing team from scoring a touchdown. The team with the ball has four downs to get first down. The goal is for the team to aim for a touchdown. A touchdown is when a team scores by running into the end zone or catching the ball in the end zone. A touchdown is worth 6 points, with a chance to score a PAT (point after touchdown). Another opportunity for scoring points is through a field goal, which is worth 3 points and only given if teams are in 4th down and are in range to kick a field goal. Another way to score a point is through 2-point conversions, which are where a team wants to score another touchdown instead of just scoring one extra point (in this instance, a team can score 2 points). When it comes to penalties, you see a yellow flag when someone has violated a rule. Just as we know, something went wrong.

We know the rules a little bit more. Do we feel more confident about who we might root for? Some statistics here will help you bring your decision together. With the last five head-to-head meetings, the Chiefs have compiled 161 points while only allowing 102 points. During the regular season, Kansas City had a sloppy offense, leading the league in dropped passes. Due to the sloppy defense that the Chiefs have and the 49ers having top-level defense in the league right now.

Will the 49ers defense be able to stop the Chiefs? We have all the information and will be a little more prepared for the Super Bowl this Sunday!
