It wasn’t what we expected, but it was what we needed. All of the signs were there. Swifties thought that Reputation (TV) was going to be announced at this year’s Grammy Awards. Taylor’s surprise announcement of her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, came as a shock, but we aren’t mad about it. So why were we all convinced it would be Reputation (TV)?
The Profile Pictures
In the days leading up to the awards, Taylor had changed her Instagram profile picture to a black and white photo. This is allusive to the infamous Reputation black and white album cover. Her change of photo wasn’t even the most suspicious part. Many of Taylor’s friends (Travis Kelce, Jack Antonoff, Taylor Lautner, etc.) also changed their profile pictures to black and white photos. Coincidence, I think not. Little did we know that The Tortured Poets Department would also have a black and white theme.
The Outfit
Continuing with the black and white theme, Taylor showed up to the Grammy Awards wearing an elegant white dress with black gloves and black shoes. Once again, all signs pointing towards Rep. To top it all off, she was wearing a chunky silver necklace. This resembles the iconic bathtub of jewels in the Look What You Made Me Do music video. On the necklace there was also a clock. If you look closely, the time on the clock was 3:15. The date 3/15 is also known as The Ides Of March. The Ides Of March once signified the new year….New Year’s Day…
The Website
Just moments before the award show, Taylor Swift’s website mysteriously went down. If you tried to go onto it, there was an error displayed. The error code displayed was DPT:321. Swifties immediately started to google what Error 321 meant. This error is commonly used for poor telephone line conditions… “The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now”. We would later find out that we psychoanalyzed the wrong half of the error in DPT:321. DPT is the initials for Tortured Poets Department backwards.
It was honestly such a shock, but we’re all here for it. As per usual, Taylor Swift masterminded us all. I guess we better start planning the album drop parties for April 19th.
