You’re probably thinking: what is imposter syndrome?
Imposter syndrome (in simple terms) is basically feeling like a phony. For example, let’s say you are in a difficult class and you take a test that you study hard for. When you get that test back, and it says you got a 100%, you may think, “They must have made a mistake” or “The professor must be an easy grader”.
If you have ever been in this situation before, you have most likely been a victim of imposter syndrome.
The reason why imposter syndrome can be an issue is that students who work very hard for their grades don’t feel like they deserve the success they receive in return.
As students, we are all trying our best and working hard. Unfortunately, some people occasionally feel this way. Imposter syndrome is another negative self-talk routine that students need to cut out of their day-to-day lives.
If you notice any of these thought patterns – take a second to give yourself the credit that you deserve!!
Replace “the professor must have made a mistake” with “I studied really hard for this test and I got the grade that I deserve!”
You deserve all of the success that you are given! Remember that.
Hope everyone who reads this and deals with imposter syndrome can take a second to incorporate more positive self-talk into their busy college routines!
