DIY SHAMROCK SHAKES (THAT ARE BETTER THAN MCDONALD’S)

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

Since its introduction to the McDonald’s menu in 1970, the seasonal Shamrock Shake has been consumed by millions, myself included. Although, truthfully, I haven’t had one in years. When I was in elementary school my mom started making homemade versions of McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Not only is this recipe tasty, it’s also simple.

Ingredients:

  1. Vanilla ice cream
  2. Peppermint extract
  3. Milk
  4. Green food coloring
  5. Whipped cream
  6. Sprinkles
  7. Maraschino cherries

Combine ice cream, peppermint extract, milk, and green food coloring into a blender and mix until smooth. To thin the milkshake, add more milk. To thicken the milkshake, add more ice cream. Use a light hand with the peppermint extract—a little goes a long way.

Top with whipped cream, sprinkles (green, of course!), and a maraschino cherry. If you’re lucky, you might be able to find green maraschino cherries to top off the St. Patrick’s day look.
