Finals week can either make or break someone. As a rising senior in college, I can personally attest to how difficult this time of year can be. Balancing part-time jobs, internships, studying, and maintaining a social life while also preparing to move out can feel overwhelming and stressful. While it’s easy to become emotionally drained and overwhelmed during this time, my best advice for underclassmen is to prioritize self-care. These final days of the semester are precious, and it’s important not to let the pressure of finals overshadow them. Don’t sabotage your social life or sacrifice sleep. Wondering how to do this and find a balance? Here are my best tips for destressing during finals week.

Go on a hot girl walk

By this time of the semester, I find myself glued to my desk for about 75% of the day, leaving little time for physical activity. I often neglect taking steps or simply moving my body. That’s why I started taking breaks to either enjoy a hot girl walk outside with some upbeat music or hop on a treadmill at the rec center. For those looking to get some studying done in the morning, I suggest walking along the footpath next to the recreation center to catch the most beautiful sunrise, followed by breakfast at Roots. Not only does this help promote well-being, but it also offers a chance to give your eyes a break from the screen and recharge mentally. It’s also a perfect time to catch up on podcasts or dive into an audiobook.

Take a Yoga Class

I can’t think of a better time than now to join a yoga class. With the school year winding down and finals looming, many of us are feeling immense pressure and stress. Perhaps you have a test coming up tomorrow and you’re feeling antsy. Taking a break to head to the rec center for a fitness class is so fun and easy. There are plenty of options available, with classes led by student instructors, helpful guidance, and allowing you to move at your own pace while enjoying good music.

Treat yourself

One of my go-to traditions during finals week is getting some of my favorite treats around campus and Amherst. I can’t resist grabbing a cup of coffee from Dunkin’ or Post and Bean multiple times throughout the week. It helps keep me motivated while studying and provides a comforting drink to sip on as I work on typing out study guides. Another must-stop spot for me is Roots, where I treat myself to their scrumptious chicken bacon ranch quesadilla – seriously if you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out! And when it comes to dinner, you’ll find me at Blue Wall with friends, enjoying a BLT sandwich accompanied by an irresistible Nutella brownie. Trust me, it’s so good.

Have a girl’s night in!

I love spending a night in with friends, surrounded by yummy snacks and drinks. Our go-to activity usually revolves around a movie night because it requires zero effort and planning while still being fun. With a little more preparation, you can never go wrong with a painting night. This semester, my friends and I went all out with a homemade charcuterie board, complete with grapes, crackers, and an array of cheeses, alongside paint, brushes, and canvases. It turned into such a fun bonding experience, and we each ended up with a personalized portrait to take home. While mine may not have been the best portrait of the evening, it was still a fun way to unwind without the hassle of going out and staying out late.

I hope you found these tips helpful! And always remember, one test does not define your worth. I have full confidence that every one of you will crush finals season!
