Every first Monday in May, the fashion’s biggest event, Met Gala took place. The 2024 Met Gala officially ended on May 6, in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET). Here, I will introduce my picks from about 450 looks total!
What is met gala?
This event is officially an opening event of the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, and the ticket income will be used for the Costume Institute activity such as buying new pieces. Only invited people are able to join, so what is going on inside is a top secret, that attendants are even prohibited from using smartphones during the event! From 1995 until now, only the ones that were approved by Anna Wintour, the chief of Vogue, can walk the red carpet, it is a huge honor to join the guest list of Met Gala. Times reported that individual tickets for this year cost $75,000! There’s no chance to miss the red carpet looks of worldwide stars.
Theme of 2024
Each year, the Met Gala has a dress code. Most celebrities come up with their original look collaborating with famous brand directors. This year, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” was the exhibition’s tile which displays approximately 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. Some aesthetically beautiful pieces are far too fragile to be worn again and just lay on the case continuing to deteriorate. But these masterpieces will come back this year with the latest technologies, including video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and so on! The theme and the dress code of the Met Gala is “The Garden of Time.” Let’s take a look at some of the gorgeous looks from the 2024 Met Gala!

The co-host Zendaya came up with the 1999 Christian Dior SS couture collection. What a perfectly matched dark makeup and a beautiful mermaid dress!

Inspired by the 1951 Balenciaga collection! Using about 150m silk organza and more than 3000 pieces of feathers, all handmaid dresses give us old-Hollywood vives.

Inspired by the 1961 ss Balenciaga collection. This dress is Made by a table close and took over 600 hours to finish!

Coated in 180,000 crystals, created over 225 hours! The crystal 3D flowers beautifully bloom over her body. Check out nature-inspired Swarovski’s supermodel crew too!

Is she a fairy? Dream-like dress with two crystal birds is just amazing. Like a fountain, glass turns out to be water in her look.
Tyla / Balman
Her debut at Met Gala was a sand dress! There’s sand even in shoulders and arms and don’t forget the hourglass too! Since the dress was so tight, she was carried to go up the stairs!
Uma Thurman / Tory Burch
Incredibly delicate butterflies, all handmade, is in her shoulders! Inspired from an already extinct butterfly, the color match with her eyes is just amazing.
Madelyn Cline / Tommy Hilfiger
What a beautiful classical dress! Tommy Hilfiger’s code, polo with a collar and buttons. Her pearl white eyeshadow perfectly matches the look.

The first K-pop group invited to the Met Gala came up with the perfect Tommy color! Their performance to unveil the coat just took my breath.
