Everyone has a favorite season, and mine has always been fall. It’s the season I was born in, and even without Halloween, one of my favorite holidays as a kid, it’s always offered comfort with its colorful leaves, fun activities, and cool weather. As the year begins its transition into fall, it’s crucial to acknowledge that not everyone views fall in the same way and that people enjoy fall for many different reasons. These are the different types of vibes I’ve sorted the season into, and what I think your favorite fall vibe says about your personality.

Warm Fall

To me, Warm Fall is the kind of fall most people think of here in the Midwest. Warm Fall is sunny and (you guessed it) warmer in temperature, but also in color with bright oranges and yellows, even light greens. It’s afternoons, soft rock music, pumpkin patches, apple picking, and pastries with apple cider.

If Warm Fall is your favorite fall vibe, you have a lot of empathy and you’re probably a mom friend. In truth, your heart belongs to summer, and you miss the higher temperatures, but you’re satisfied with Warm Fall and that it provides good enough weather to still do the outdoor activities you enjoy. You probably really like talking to other people and having fun, and you’re definitely an extrovert.

Cool Fall

Cool Fall, contrary to Warm Fall, still has that comforting (if not stereotypical) fall feel, but instead of bright colors and warm, sunny weather, it’s defined by clouds, rain, less saturated colors like reds and browns, and the cooler temperatures that late fall brings. It’s early mornings and evenings, piano music, baking, movie nights, and chocolate-covered popcorn and pretzels.

If your favorite fall vibe is Cool Fall, you’re definitely an introvert, and you probably keep your circle small with a few friends and family members that you’re really close with. You spend all summer waiting for weather like this, and all winter mourning it. You’re also probably very crafty and you like to read.

Vintage Fall

Vintage Fall is similar to Warm Fall in its more saturated colors, but Vintage Fall is uniquely defined by lots of pumpkins and pumpkin-themed decorations, grandpa sweaters, cats, and plaid patterns. It’s 50s jazz music, coffee, and to me it also gives the vibes of those fall photoshoots on TikTok with the sheet or carved pumpkin over your head.

If you love Vintage Fall, you are an old soul; you definitely love to thrift, and you probably have a vinyl record collection (even though you may or may not actually listen to them). You like fall, but you’re really just happy it’s finally sweater weather. You probably trust and love people easily, and you seem like the life of the party but deep down you love your quiet time too.

Nostalgia Fall

Nostalgia Fall is where we finally start to drift into Halloween territory. Nostalgia Fall includes lots of Halloween decorations and bright colors, especially oranges, blacks, and purples. It’s costume parties, disposable camera pictures, and fun and classic Halloween songs (think “Monster Mash,” “Thriller,” etc.). Think about all of your favorite childhood Halloween treats like candy corn and caramel apples, and your favorite fall activities like hayrides, pumpkin carving, and corn mazes, and that’s what Nostalgia Fall is.

If Nostalgia Fall is your fall vibe, you definitely grew up in the 90s/2000s and you miss it every day. You love fall because it means Halloween. You’re probably very extroverted and have a lot of friends that you love to spend time with, and you’re more than likely an avid picture-taker.

Witchy Fall

Last but definitely not least, there’s Witchy Fall. There are definitely dark and cloudy vibes here, and with that comes celestial imagery, classic Halloween urban legends like vampires, werewolves, and zombies, and dark colors like blacks and deep purples. Witchy Fall is flowy skirts and crocheted cardigans, soft pop music, spider webs, haunted houses, bonfires, and alllll the fall candles.

If Witchy Fall is your favorite fall vibe, you’re very creative and imaginative, and you try to see the best in people. You love fall because of all the mystery surrounding it, and you like to try to be mysterious too, but I get the feeling that once people get to know you, they find out you’re an open book. You’re probably a big fan of either Agatha Christie or Jane Austen, and you like to collect things.
