Every summer it seems as though a new trend emerges, whether it’s hot girl summer, the summer Vsco girl aesthetic, the clean girl aesthetic, etc. However, the summer of 2024 has introduced brat summer, which might be the most memorable thus far. Now that summer has come to an end, let’s reminisce on the iconic brat summer. If you have been on TikTok at all this summer then you are no stranger to the phenomenon that was, brat summer. Everything from the iconic “Apple” dance to the neon green party aesthetic was circulating everywhere.

For some context, music artist Charli XCX announced her upcoming album “Brat” in February and warned all of us to get ready for a Brat summer. The question has been proposed a couple of times on social media: What does it mean to have a brat summer? I would define brat summer as a reclaiming of the word brat and having a summer filled with living unapologetically. Personally, I loved everything about Brat Summer. Brat Summer introduced a new style, such as the signature brat green color, messy hair, black makeup, Y2K style clothing, and an essence exuding confidence. The origin of Brat Summer, the Brat album, has also taken over the summer with its hits songs “Apple”, “360”, and “Von Dutch a. g. Cook remix” with the iconic Addison Rae scream. The whole album is a hyper-pop, 2010’s club song throwback. These songs are arguably the most popular off the album and serve as anthems to help complete your brat summer. All in all, I hope every summer can be a brat summer.
