- OPENERS Greyday is known for its fire openers. This year, it included Ekkstacy, Shakewell, Haarper, Pouya, and Denzel Curry. Pouya carried as usual and Denzel Curry’s stage presence was unreal. Not only was he an energetic maniac on stage, but he brought out a special guest, A$AP Ferg who then performed “Plain Jane”!!!! And to think that this all happened BEFORE the boys even came out, you know it’s going to be a good time.
- NEW ALBUM???? Though most concert-goers tend to stick to the classics, $uicideboy$’s most recent album, “New World Depression” defied all odds with its immediate success. As their most streamed album and reaching the number one spot on Billboard’s top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, the show began with 4 of these bangers, immediately hyping everyone up.
- SONGS After all the New World Depression Songs, in my opinion, the boys couldn’t have made a better setlist. Taking all the best songs from each album and ending it off with “And to those I Love, Thanks for Sticking Around” had me on such an emotional roller coaster I could barely function. Banger after banger after banger, no wonder Greyday is getting more and more popular. It was so good that I had completely lost my voice just mid-way through the show.
- SCRIM’S TOWEL? I love that Scrim and Ruby engage with their fans throughout the show. From making eye contact, dancing with you, and hyping you up, they go to lengths to make sure their fans feel the love. THEN THEY TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!!!! Srim brought out a towel, wiped his hair, pointed at me, and threw it at me. I have never felt more blessed in my life. Genuinely. Scrim has always been my favorite and I nearly passed out after this little moment we shared.
- FANS Scrim and Ruby have even said it themselves on a podcast episode with Theo Von, that their fan base is like no other. A lot of $uicideboy$’s music revolves around dark topics and mental health issues, so their fan base is incredibly supportive and connected. Like when you go to most concerts, I feel like there’s usually this sense of connectedness and living-in-the-moment experience with the fans, but for Greyday, I can’t even put into words how united everyone was. I met so many people and made so many new friends who I stuck with through the entire show. It’s such a surreal feeling, dancing with strangers, and being around people you feel like you’ve known forever all because we’re part of the same community.
- SCRIMS SPEECH The most emotional part of the night was for sure Scrim’s speech. If you haven’t been to Greyday or have no idea what I’m referring to, Scrim makes a point of sending a special message to their fans right before their closing song. He brings up his and Ruby’s dark pasts with substance abuse and mental health issues and goes on to encourage us that even in the darkest of times, there is always something worth living for. He makes a point of saying “We understand you guys because we are you guys. We are no different and we aren’t any better than you guys”. It’s so refreshing in this day and age to have artists that remain so humble and self-aware. This is just another thing I adore about them, is that they never forget where they came from, which I feel like most artists nowadays tend to do when they get caught up in the fame. Scrim finishes his speech by emphasizing that $uicideboy$ would be nothing without the fans and in the end, we were the ones who saved them.
It was such an incredible show and if you’re a fan and debating whether to indulge in a ticket, this is your sign to not miss out. Money will always come and go but experiences like these, you’ll never forget.
