Now that fall is in full swing, it’s time to soak up all of the opportunities this time of year has to offer. It can be easy to get sucked into the rush of a busy semester, but it is important to make time for you and your friends to enjoy some fall festivities.

Go apple picking

Luckily, UNH is in the heart of New England where there are plenty of apple orchards. You can make a whole afternoon out of apple picking by bringing friends, taking pictures, and trying some new fall treats! Put on a cute sweater and jeans and pick a chilly, sunny day to go to make for a fun fall outing.

Carve Pumpkins

Bring your friends and pick out pumpkins at a pumpkin patch, farmstand, or a grocery store. Set up a carving station, and put on a movie in the background. You can either buy carving stencils, create your own, or find them on Google or Pinterest.

Movie Marathon

It’s crazy how quick the weather can go from 70 to 40 degrees, so for those chillier weekend days, a movie marathon is the way to go. There are so many fall and Halloween movies to get you in the spirit, but some of my favorites are: Hocus Pocus, When Harry Met Sally, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and The Goonies. If you’d rather binge a new series, my favorite is Gilmore Girls. It’s the perfect blend of drama and heart-warming moments with just the right amount of cozy, fall vibes.

Bake everything

With the turning of the leaves comes everything pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and apple, so take advantage of this time of year and get creative. If you have access to an oven and kitchen, go on a fun grocery trip, get all your supplies, and get to work. If you’re limited to living in a dorm, go to a coffee shop and get a seasonal muffin, or a cider donut from a local apple orchard.

This time of year is all what you make of it. If you don’t slow down to enjoy the weather and everything that comes with it, it could pass you by. It’s all about romanticizing your life, as silly as it sounds. By spicing up your weekend with a trip to the pumpkin patch, or stopping by Starbucks to try the new pumpkin spice latte it can be just what you need to turn an average weekend into a great one.
