Growing up, playing the Wii was everything. Hours spent swinging virtual tennis rackets or baseball bats, racing karts on tons of different tracks, memorizing choreography to gain perfect points, and so, so much more. It is hard to believe how much time I put into the different games, yet now it all feels like a distant memory.
If you are someone like myself who owned a Wii, you can’t deny that the games created were amazing. From the energetic competition of Wii Sports, to the strategy making in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Wii offered a captivating gaming experience. But they don’t make games like that anymore…
Here are the Top 5 Wii games that I absolutely miss playing
- Mario Kart Wii
There is no game that brings my competitive side out more than Mario Kart Wii. The range of emotions that goes into a single race is insane. One moment you are cruising in first place, and then seconds can pass and you are being pelted with a barrage of red shells. Don’t even get me started on the different courses this game has. From the stressful Rainbow Road, to the fun Mushroom Gorge, each track holds lots of memories. Plus, the soundtracks are always catchy (Coconut Mall has top tier music). Baby Luigi will also forever be my main!
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Another game that forever has my heart is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Nothing was more exciting than getting to verse your family and friends in an intense match. Although my list of main characters is a few, I always loved being Kirby and Lucario, and my favorite maps to play on were Pictochat, WarioWare, Inc., and my siblings’ own created maps.
3. Wii…
Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, Wii Fit, Wii Play: You know the game is going to be good when its title starts with the word “Wii. I don’t know about anyone else, but I would always keep restarting Wii Sports Baseball until I had a team of Mii characters that I liked. I loved doing the Hula Hoop and Step games of Wii Fit. And with Wii Play, the fishing game and find the Mii game were the best. Last but not least, how can’t someone miss putting together their own band and creating iconic covers to different songs.
4. Just Dance
Time Warp, Rasputin, YMCA: You know you’ve played Just Dance growing up a lot when you still know the dances to a lot of the songs on the games. I also don’t know if it was just me, but I always had a go-to dancer on most of the songs; I would never be anyone else but that specific one. I know there are still games being developed, but they aren’t the same as they were back then. There is something different about playing Just Dance on the Wii than on any other counsel.
5. Super Mario Bros Wii
I loved playing Super Mario Bros Wii growing up! It was so exciting going from world to world, completing the different levels. You never really played Super Mario Bros if you didn’t try to fight your siblings for a specific color Yoshi, race to get the different power ups, or float in the bubble to let someone else do all the work. I always found something so satisfying about keeping Mario’s life count to 100 simply because it causes his hat to stay off during gaming. Although you can’t go wrong with any of the maps, my favorite world had to be world 6!
Bonus: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
Just because there are SO SO SO many amazing games to choose one, I had to include a bonus game I’ll miss playing!
No era can ever live up to the Wii era!
