During this time of the year, dreams of magical and ethereal winter destinations start to swirl in my mind. As my neighbourhood becomes grey and dreary, I imagine what Christmas would be like in the picturesque destinations of my imagination. If you are like me and wish to escape to the most Christmasy Christmas town, look at some of these destinations! Whether it is to fill your mind with pretty pictures, or perhaps seriously consider booking a plane ticket, I hope you dream of someday visiting these bucket list Christmas locations too!

1. Lapland, Finland

At the top of my winter bucket list is to see the Northern Lights! What better place to see them than in Finland’s Northernmost region? Being surrounded by Lapland’s picturesque natural beauty, while perhaps on skis on a sled, sounds like a Christmas dream.

2. Hallstatt, Austria

A quick Google search of Hallstatt can confirm that this town looks like it was made for Christmas. Located in the beautiful Austria, surrounded by mountains and on the water, it is a dream in winter nights. Accompanied by festive markets in December, it is a must-see location during Christmas!

3. New york CIty, USa

Christmas in New York? A classic! Endless Christmas movies set in New York have lived in my dreams since childhood, making this an iconic Christmas dream destination. From Will Ferrell’s Central Park snowball fights in Elf, or reunions in front of the Rockefeller Christmas tree in Home Alone 2, Christmas media has created a winter NYC fantasy that I hope to one day fulfill.

4. Paris, France

This may be me trying to live out my Emily in Paris aspirations, but a Christmas in Paris seems perfect to me. Who wouldn’t want to wander around the Eiffel Tower as it snows or warm up with some of the richest hot chocolate at the iconic Carette cafe?

5. Sydney, Australia

For those who may not be a fan of all things snowy and cold, I had to include a southern hemisphere destination. Should a green Christmas be your desire, head to the land down under! Escaping the Canadian chill and celebrating Christmas at one of Sydney’s many beaches with the sun beating down sounds like a dream.

I hope this provided you with some dreamy inspiration for bucket list destinations to one day visit on Christmas. If this inspired you to create a Christmas mood board, happy Pinteresting! Or if you are anything like me, head over to Skyscanner and look for the cheapest flight to book this holiday season.
