As a video content creator on the Youtube platform, I grew up watching beauty influencers and vloggers. I regularly spend time on Youtube watching makeup tutorials, hauls, and catching up with influencers’ favorite products. Some of my long-time subscribed influencers have gathered the courage to come out and share with the world their sexuality or gender identity, and I could not be more proud. These are some of my favorite beauty vloggers who have shared their journeys.
1. Nikkie de Jager
Nikkie is a Dutch makeup artist and beauty guru who empowers others in the beauty community. Her makeup video series “The Power of Makeup,” where she does half her full face, blew up on Youtube. Her Youtube channel, NikkieTutorials, has over 14 million followers who adore her bright, colorful makeup looks and funny personality. She is no exception to hate comments, as she has received criticisms about her height and weight. Nikkie came out as transgender after someone on social media threatened to expose her. Her coming out video went viral, and since then, she has been very outspoken about her journey as a trans woman and how makeup plays into her life. As a long-time subscriber of Nikkie, I applaud her courage and the choice to show the vulnerable, personal aspect of her life.
2. Jackie Wyers
Jackie Wyers is a Canadian beauty content creator who takes inspiration from television and movies. She copies the makeup application techniques used by celebrity makeup artists to define her natural features to be more similar to that of the celebrity she is replicating. Some of her most notable looks include a Lily Collins-inspired makeup look and a transformation to a character from the Nickelodeon hit show Victorious. Jackie came out as bisexual a few years ago, after ending a long-term relationship with a former boyfriend. Aside from her pop culture and decades-inspired looks, she also creates hair tutorial content that features her luscious locks.Â
3. Patrick Starrr
Patrick Starr is taking over the makeup industry by storm. He is a professional makeup artist who believes that makeup is one size. This is also in response to the hate comments he receives about his figure. Makeup is the creative outlet that he and many other influencers use. With this sentiment, Starrr created his own makeup line called One-Size, which is sold in Sephora and online. By successfully making a name for himself, he is paving the way for makeup influencers to get their products out on top shelves too.
These three beauty influencers are changing the world. They are constantly redefining the norms of the beauty industry and challenging the hardships and adversaries they face with their strong will and pride. They strive for makeup equality and persevere through the hate. They remain loved by many and are continuing to make strides in the community. I hope to achieve the same excellence and accomplishments that they were able to achieve. Â
