Organic products have become much more popular in recent years as more and more people are becoming concerned with keeping the environment clean and sustainable. Companies and brands have taken on the same challenge and began switching to more natural products such as paper straws instead of plastic, using recyclable materials and removing harmful chemicals from their products.

Beauty brands and makeup companies have adopted this same philosophy and that is how the term “clean beauty” was created. If you’re looking to transition into using completely “clean” makeup, meaning that a product is safe, non-toxic, and has transparent labeling of ingredients, then take a look at the list below for 5 clean makeup brands!

You may not recognize the name Emily Weiss but you may recognize the tv show “The Hills.” Emily was a reoccurring character on the MTV show for 3 episodes back in 2007. She was Lauren Conrad’s coworker during their time interning for “Teen Vogue.” Since then, Emily launched the billion-dollar makeup company “Glossier” as she states “I wanted to make beauty as much of an element of personal style as fashion.” Glossier is cruelty-free meaning that they do not test their products on animals. Their most popular product is their “Boy Brow” grooming pomade and is known worldwide!

“Because the world throws a lot at you, including tons of gross toxins, Milk Makeup strives to be clean” says Milk Makeup. They promise that you’ll never see ingredients like parabens, sulfates, SLS, SLES, formaldehyde, mineral oil, or talc in their line. Instead, they formulate with nourishing alternatives like watermelon extract and mango butter. The founders Dianna Ruth and Zanna Roberts Rassi, expressed that one of the ways they established the guidelines of the company was based on the fact that they wanted to use healthy ingredients that they felt great about, especially if their kids got their hands on the products. You may have heard of one of their most popular products called the “Kush High Volume Mascara” which is formulated with unique heart-shaped fibers and conditioning hemp-derived cannabis seed oil.

The Honest Company

You may have seen The Honest Company’s products on the cleaning shelves at your local Target but did you know that this clean brand also has a large beauty line? Founder Jessica Alba says “I created The Honest Company because you shouldn’t have to choose between what works and what’s good for you.” The “Honest Standard” is a 6 step process of practices that the company goes through to ensure that they create safe, effective products for their customers and their families. You can find this 6 step process right here on their website.

Sephora Collection

Also known as the “SClean Collection”, Sephora has launched their own clean makeup line that includes 4 staple products free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, formaldehyde, and more. This collection includes an eye shadow palette, lip oil, lip mousse and foundation that comes in 20 shades. Another benefit to this collection is that it’s more affordable than many other clean collections that are available at Sephora.

Not only are these brands committed to using clean and natural products, but they are also cost-effective and perfect for the “college girl budget!”
