Free Trials of Fitness Classes to Keep You Moving With a Mask On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

When quarantine started in April last year, I think it’s safe to say that almost everyone found something to keep them from going crazy at home. For me, this was going outside to walk and run. Gradually, this led me to start working out more. It felt so good and I was incredibly happy with myself for finding an activity that was good for my health. But once the pandemic and weather got progressively worse, it became harder and harder to find ways to get my blood pumping while being socially distanced and safe.

When it came to finding a place to give me some exercise during the week, I scoured the internet for the best place to go. To help me decide, I took a lot of free classes. So, after weeks of trials, I give you: the guide to free trials of fitness classes.

Orangetheory Fitness

If you’re the competitive type or someone who likes to continuously push your limits, Orangetheory is the place for you. Orangetheory is almost three classes in one, as you use the rowing machine, do cardio on the treadmill, and use weights for strength. Before you start, trainers will hook you up to a monitor to track your heart rate. Your goal is to stay in the “orange zone”, meaning that your heart rate is at the perfect spot to raise your metabolism and burn more calories. Typically, you can get one free class before you decide to commit, but for a limited time only, you can get two! Oh, and don’t forget to get there 30-45 minutes early. Yes, I did make this mistake. Yes, it is a big deal.

PureBarre

This low-impact, high-intensity workout gives you a full-body workout, including strength and flexibility training. Barre’s workout techniques are inspired by ballet, yoga and Pilates, and trainers will provide you with all the equipment you need to succeed. All you need is your water bottle, because trust me, you’ll need it. Right now, you can get your first foundations class free. If you decide you love it, you can sign up for unlimited classes for three months for $99 and have the opportunity to move up to more difficult classes.

Shred415

If you’re looking for not just cardio but strength training as well, look no further than Shred415. This center breaks up your class into four intervals: two on the treadmill doing cardio and two using weights for strength. You have full control over what speed you go at and what weights you use, but your trainer will guide you through the process and push you to go further. If you’re wanting a good in-person class to keep your blood pumping, Shred415 is offering your first class completely free. However, if you’re not ready to go back in person, they’re also offering a whole week for free for their OnDemand online class.

CycleBar Superior

This one is a personal favorite of mine, despite it being a little farther out. CycleBar is more than just a stationary bike ride; it’s an upbeat, motivational journey led by trainers who push you to your limits. When you go, trainers will help you find shoes, get set up on your bike, and understand how the machine works. After that, you’re off to the races! I always leave these classes sweaty, tired, but feeling amazing. If this sounds like the exercise class for you, you can get your first three classes free.

Easton Training Center

If you’re looking for a good kickboxing or self-defense class, look no further than Easton Training Center. At this center, you can choose between kickboxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay Thai, and a mixed martial arts class. I always wanted to take a kickboxing class, so I started here. I absolutely loved it. In my class, we did warm-ups and learned basic movements, which definitely leaves you wanting more. Before you commit, you can try one class for free at one of their nine locations.

Club Pilates

Club Pilates in Boulder believes that you’re at your best when you have full control of your body. These classes will give you a well-rounded exercise that leaves you moving better and feeling better. This center also offers online classes if you’re not quite ready to go back in person. If you’re interested in trying it out, you can schedule your first class for free. This class is a no-pressure and full-body workout to give you a look at what Club Pilates is about before you move on to more difficult sessions.

Boulder CrossFit

Boulder CrossFit’s goal is to make you love where you work out. Not only does this center offer CrossFit classes, but they also offer an Olympic weightlifting program, bootcamp, and open gym access if you’re just wanting a place to do your own thing. There are two options for a free trial: if this is the first time you’re trying CrossFit, you’re eligible to get a free one-on-one introductory class, or, if you’re an experienced CrossFitter (trained for three months at another gym), you can get a free week for switching to the Boulder gym.

No matter how you want to move, there is sure to be a class near you that can help you achieve your goals. The amount of classes in Boulder is not limited to this list, but these are some great options to try if you’re not ready to spend money and commit or if you don’t know what kind of exercise is right for you. If you have the time, try these out and save some money while you sweat!
