Spotify Spring Cleaning and Features You Probably Didn’t Know About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lafayette chapter.

In my efforts to get more digitally organized, I realized I haven’t been using my Spotify account as efficiently as I could be. There are so many features I didn’t know existed that make using the software so much easier.

Who doesn’t love an organized music library? I don’t know about you, but I have multiple playlists for every mood I’m in, and my Spotify sidebar is bursting at the seams with playlists. I know what you’re thinking: you should just delete the playlists you don’t listen to. But, what if there was a way to optimize the sidebar and combine those playlists into different categories?

Spotify has a feature that allows listeners to combine their playlists into different folders. By using this feature, you can group your favorite playlists together in a way that makes sense to you! Here’s how you do it:

  • First things first, open and login to Spotify on any computer (this has to be done on the downloadable computer software or online through any internet browser as they haven’t added this to their mobile app)

  • On the left-hand side, you’ll see the playlists you’ve previously liked. Here you can right-click (or two-finger click if you’re using a Mac) on any playlist in order to create a new folder.

  • After naming your folder, you can click and drag your playlists into the different folders you create.

In using this feature, I have been able to organize all my playlists into folders that make it easier for me to navigate the software on my computer and the app. When I want to work out, I no longer have to go fishing to find my favorite Spotify “Workout Twerkout” playlist.

Spotify added a new feature in their latest update that has made it even easier to listen through all your liked songs based on a mood or genre you want to listen to. You can access this awesome feature by going onto the Spotify app on your smartphone, tapping on liked songs, and a bar will show up at the top of your list of songs that categorizes your favorites for you! This makes it easy to play the music you know you like and tailor it to your every mood! And the best part is they update as you modify your library.

I hope these tips help you navigate your way through Spotify and make you fall even more in love with this elite software.
