Women’s History Month is a month dedicated to the remembrance and celebration of women in history. Many women have said empowering words with some of my favorites below:

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” – Princess Diana

Princess Diana is someone I definitely admire, especially for the way she carried herself. This quote from her is so important because sometimes we might do kind actions (the thought still counts!) expecting something in return. Instead, it may be more beneficial to let go of this expectation and be confident knowing that the kindness that we spread will always come back to us.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou’s quotes are my favorite, and this one is no exception. You always have control over your attitude, and this quote is essential to how to look at life. You can either change what you don’t like or change your attitude about it. The way Maya worded this makes you realize how simple it truly can be.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou’s quotes are my favorite, and this one is no exception. You always have control over your attitude, and this quote is essential to how to look at life. You can either change what you don’t like or change your attitude about it. The way Maya worded this makes you realize how simple it truly can be.

“You have to accept whatever comes, and the only important thing is that you meet it with the best you have to give.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Life is unpredictable, and you’re never going to know what comes next. The only way to face uncertainty is to meet it by doing the best you can because you’ll know that that’s all you could do. That is enough.

“I don’t like to gamble, but if there’s one thing I’m willing to bet on, it’s myself.” – Beyoncé

Beyoncé is another person I look up to, especially in terms of her work ethic. It’s essential to have confidence in yourself and be willing to know that you can do anything you set out to do.

“You develop confidence after the successful repetition of any endeavor.” – Debbie Millman

I personally completely attest to this quote. The first time doing something out of your comfort zone can be uncomfortable. The way I’ve learned to develop confidence doing something I haven’t done before is through repetition.

“Bravery is not the absence of fear, it is overcoming it.” — Mellody Hobson

Often, we can see someone do something that we may be terrified of doing ourselves; we may think they’re just fearless. The truth is they’re probably not. Most likely, they had to overcome their fear to pursue the presented opportunity.

“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.” — Oprah Winfrey

As someone who used to be terrified of failure, I thought avoiding opportunities would make me invincible to failing at them. I’ve learned that I would rather fail and be able to say I tried than always wonder what could’ve happened if I did. When you get terrific opportunities (which you will), show up for them. Don’t feel like you don’t deserve them because you do. Show up for your moment and make it yours.

Don’t be intimidated by what you don’t know. That can be your greatest strength and ensure that you do things differently from everyone else.” — Sara Blakely

I always have endless questions. Whether it’s about a school assignment or about a movie I’m watching, it can be easy to see curiosity as a bad thing. I know I used to not ask questions in class because of the fear of being seen as dumb for not knowing the answer. I’ve learned to see my curiosity as a good thing and use it as a strength because life is about constant learning. You’re never going to know everything, and what good would it be if you did?

“You can’t let tragic events, or anything for that matter, take away your joy. You have to keep going.” — My Mom

The last quote comes from the most inspiring woman I know: my mom.

When talking to my mom about her mom’s passing at a young age, I asked her how she could remain so lighthearted and optimistic about life after something so tragic. The quote above is what she said in response, and I always keep it in mind.

I remember that nothing should have ever have the power to take away your happiness.

I hope all these quotes provide you with empowerment, inspiration, but if anything at all, I hope they give you a sense of peace. I hope in times of doubt; they urge you to try one more time.

Remember that these women may be famous and successful (shout out to my mom too!) in their respected work areas, but your voice is just as important.

And I’m confident in saying that they would agree too.
