As the slogan of this semester has become “unprecedented times”, college has looked really different for me as I’m sure it has for other people. There are many things that I did last year that are so different in 2021. With many of my classes online, it is hard to find the motivation to do anything, and when I do, the options are limited. So I have decided to write a list of the best COVID-friendly activities for you to do in New Orleans.
First up, you can visit the sculpture garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art. This is a great activity because not only is it beautiful, but it is outdoors and a great way to be outside and get some fresh air. They also offer a student discount, so it is an affordable option for any student who wants to look at some art. This is a great place to social distance and have a good time while doing it.
Next up, we have a more basic option: brunch. I mean, who doesn’t love brunch?! There are so many great brunch places in New Orleans downtown and in the French Quarter. One great restaurant is Brennan’s Restaurant. They are an American, Creole and Cajun restaurant. They embody New Orleans and everything that comes with it–he food, the architecture and more. They even have an outdoor courtyard. This is a great option because you can get great food then walk around the French Quarter (with a mask, of course).
Another great activity is going to Audubon Zoo. This is a good option for Tulane students because we can walk there while going through Audubon Park, which is an activity in itself. The park is beautiful and once you get to the zoo, you can see many different animals. Some of the zoo is not open due to COVID, but it isn’t anything too drastic that alters the experience; the animals are still as cute as they were before!
Some other honorable mentions of things to do during COVID is taking a walk with friends to try out a new restaurant, getting a snoball, walking around City Park, and if you’re looking for an activity with a large group of friends, some swamp tours are letting you go on a private tour with friends. Although we are living in a strange time right now, there is always something fun to do in the city of New Orleans.
