I am not too familiar with the concept of getting heartbroken. I do not know if I ever went through it. It sounds like it could have happened to me based on what characters in a book, show, or movie went through. Yet, I cannot compare my experiences to someone else, especially a fictional character. But perhaps I know what it is like to feel drained and aimlessly moving on with life.
As this is midterms week, I have been rather out of it lately. There are moments where I lack the motivation to do anything, the work seems to pile until late at night when I finally have some energy to accomplish anything because of stress. It feels like an unhealthy time and if you are going through this, you are not alone.
There are moments where it does not get to you until maybe a week later. You could be telling yourself that you are okay and you will get through everything. Well, life has other plans because now you could possibly be laying on your bed while feeling this emptiness that you cannot fill. There could be moments where you are even questioning your self-worth, even when you tell yourself that you know you deserve better days than this. You are aware it is happening, but you never know what to do about it.
I am one of those people laying in bed all the time. I do admit that it is mostly because I get less sleep than someone my age should be getting. Therefore, this is a checking point in this article. If you are lacking sleep at the moment, I would suggest taking a nap soon or going to bed earlier tonight. The tiredness you feel can affect you emotionally too. And especially when you’re not feeling your best, I hope you are taking the time to take care of yourself. Perhaps that is what you need, some time in bed to think a little. That is fine because we need rest somehow and rest can come in different variations.
Sometimes I like to try thinking back to the advice I would give my friends if they were ever in the same situation. It is hard to give advice to yourself. However, the advice you should listen to is the one you tell the people you care about. It is easy to tell yourself tiny things to reassure yourself, but you need that firmness and compassionate energy that you would give your friends.
It is not unproductive to take care of yourself. In fact, think of it as an investment for later. The time you take care of yourself will be worth it in the end. You might look back and think about how far along you have gotten since day one. Also, you will get the work done.
If you have an essay we are talking about, this is a good time to do something. Insert the header, page numbers, title, or create that work cited page. You will get through it in bits and pieces. Also, this is a suggestion that I keep telling people, but if you write an essay in comic sans I think you will have a better time than you think. Just don’t forget to revert it back to a proper font afterward!
If you have an exam coming up, you have been preparing for this moment this entire semester. The information is there, you might need some refreshers. Look back at your notes, just a little bit at a time because I know it might seem daunting to look through everything. However, I know that you can do it because you already made it here.
If you have a project, you will get through it. We tend to overthink the instructions. It will be done eventually because if you continue putting work into it, that means less work for the future. It will be completed before you know it. As a side note, if this is a group project, keep yourself accountable out of respect for the other people you are working with.
