The restaurants are catering to a new market of people wanting to try vegan food. Here are the top three vegan restaurants in the city you’ll have to try during your next study break.

‘The Saucy Cow’ at The Bernard Shaw.

Founded by the incredible Roisin Lawlor, the Saucy Cow is one of the best vegan fast food places you’ll ever visit. The concept was born after her trip to New York, Roisin made a range of vegan sauces she carried around in her handbag, “ready to turn any sauce-less burger or sandwich into a top-quality meal at a moment’s notice”.

The Saucy Cow is now at home in EatYard at the Bernard Shaw in Dublin 9. Opening Wednesday to Sunday they offer the most amazing vegan spice bags and “chick” burgers. I recommend eating them beside the canal on a sunny afternoon. Order their food for delivery on Deliveroo and follow them on Instagram @thesaucycow_.

Vegan Sandwich Co. in Smithfield

After growing tired of terrible vegan options, owner Sam Pearson set up a market stall to sell all things lunch, vegan-style. Less than a year later Sam opened his first shop in Smithfield, and it’s been a roaring success ever since. Last year, they won best vegan takeaway and best lunchtime takeaway in the Just Eat national takeaway awards.

Everything is created themselves using natural ingredients. Even better is that all the packaging is compostable. Their best-seller is their vegan chick*n fillet rolls, offering spice or plain seitan just like in any classic Irish deli. Their taco wedges are the best hangover food anyone could ask for. Order their food for delivery on Deliveroo and follow them on Instagram @vegansandwichco.

McGuinness’s of Camden Street

McGuinness’s takeaway is the first takeaway in Ireland to have an extensive vegan and gluten-free menu. McGuinness’s is a family chipper that has been operating for 18 years. They are also one of the few chippers that chip and peel all their own potatoes in store!

There is nothing like pouring out of Whelan’s on a Friday night and heading straight to McGuinness’s where you’ll always get the best vegan black bean burgers and chips. McGuinness’s have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic and sell home kits on their website for their chickpea burgers, their vegan battered sausage, and many more. Order their food from their website, mcguinnesstakeaway.ie

All these options are available for collection and delivery, so next time you’re feeling hungry, think vegan!
