There are many frustrations we’ve all experienced in the pandemic but one thing I hadn’t really thought about before was constantly ordering food from the same places. It’s hard to look for new food places to order from and no one wants to risk spending their money just to find out that the food they’ve ordered isn’t good. In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to recommend some delicious black-owned eateries in Atlanta for you to try if you’re like me and both interested in supporting black businesses and tired of ordering from the same three food places every time you’re hungry.
Owned by former Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Kandi Buruss-Tucker—inspired by her mother Joyce Jones and aunts Bertha Jones and Nora Wilcox—Old Lady Gang has three different Atlanta locations. They’re known for their upscale comfort food recipes passed down throughout the family. They offer COVID-friendly dining services and have recently become available on DoorDash.
Local Green Atlanta was started by local songwriter Zachary “Big Zak” Wallace as a food truck in Vine City to help improve the health and wellbeing of the people in his community. Since its start, it has become a thriving restaurant known for its tasty and nutritious vegan vegetarian and pescatarian dishes. While they aren’t currently offering in-person dining, they do offer takeout and delivery services and are available on multiple delivery apps.
Founded by Chef Deborah VanTrece, this restaurant serves up soul food from different cultures around the world. The West Midtown eatery was voted best new restaurant in Atlanta by The Georgia Voice and offers in-person dining as well as delivery to certain locations.
Slim and Husky’s was started by three friends in Nashville but has branched out into California and Georgia. As someone who has been to their Atlanta location before, I can say that I really enjoyed their signature unique pizzas and cinnamon rolls and they have some amazing wall art. The restaurant offers delivery and has also begun selling frozen pizzas.
This restaurant, started by chef Tassali Ma’at, serves up raw vegan cuisine inspired heavily by West African flavors. They offer healthy, delicious entrees that vegans and non-vegans can enjoy. They aren’t open to dine in at.
