When she is not examining chemical reactions or studying research methods, you can find Jamma Lucky, a current FSU Biochemistry major, creating feel-good dinners and crave-worthy desserts in the comfort of her own home for her business, Clover Cuisine. Being a local business owner, along with having a demanding school schedule, has caused this college sophomore to reflect on where she wants to be in life. “I like to make sure that I have time to put out things that are a reflection of my abilities,” Lucky says. “I prioritize school and my personal health, but I manage my business by trying to remain on a schedule and staying organized.” Lucky is one of many small shop owners who have felt the effects of COVID-19 as the cooking industry has seen a sharp decline in consumerism.
However, Jamma Lucky refused to give up on Clover Cuisine. By watching her family cook around the kitchen growing up, she knew that her passion for the culinary arts was like second nature and a piece of her that deserved to be shared with others. “People would always tell me I was good, but when I realized I was good at it, I took advantage.” Lucky recalls her grandmothers as the main sources for her inspiration as a chef. “My favorite dessert to make is my grandmother’s Sour Cream Pound Cake. This was the first dessert she taught me how to make, and it still tastes so good every time,” Lucky says.
