A lot of us have been struggling more so than usual recently, and given our current circumstances, that’s perfectly understandable. When Montréal went into its second lockdown, I began to find it much more difficult to stay positive and find the motivation to do anything. I realized that my current routine wasn’t working and I needed to take more time for myself. Here are 5 things you can add into your routine for some self-care!
Go on a daily walk
I’d never been a big walk person prior to the pandemic, but they’ve honestly been the single greatest part of my days in lockdown. It’s so important to make sure you’re getting your fresh air and they’re a great opportunity to clear your head and take a little break between classes. You’re getting some exercise and some time to clear your head, and I’m sure you’ll be feeling a lot more clear-headed when you get home.
Get a diffuser
I purchased my diffuser a few months ago now and it’s quickly become one of my favourite items. They have all kinds of health benefits such as helping with stress relief, promoting better sleep and re-energizing you (depending on which essential oils you get of course). They’re great for improving the overall energy both within yourself and your environment.
Limit how much you’re ordering out
While we definitely want to make sure we’re supporting local businesses in these uncertain times, make sure you’re not over-doing it in the food delivery department. Taking the time to make yourself healthy, home-cooked meals will pay off in a variety of ways, namely you’ll be feeling much better. Saving your take-out for a specific day can be your reward for all the hard work you’ve accomplished during the week!
Start journaling!
Whether you’re bullet-journaling or just writing with no particular method, journaling is a great way to clear your head. Whenever I have a lot going on, taking just a few minutes to write down how I’m feeling immediately calms me down and helps me put everything into perspective. If it’s new to you, you can always start small and work your way up to doing it more regularly: anything will help!
Try doing yoga
Even if you’re not a big yoga person, doing just 5-10 minutes when you wake up and before you go to bed can totally alter your day. It’ll help you to feel less stiff and sore throughout the day and stretch out all of those muscles that are so tense from sitting all the time. Mixed with some meditation, it’s also a great way to clear your head at the beginning and end of the day!
