5 Ways To Celebrate Valentine’s Day: Single’s Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

It’s that time of year again where stores are selling giant stuffed bears, reservations are being made at five-star restaurants, and heart decorations are filling up homes. Undoubtedly, it’s almost Valentine’s Day. While some may have a significant other to celebrate with, many are left alone to buy their own chocolates or roses. If you’re one of the many celebrating alone this year, keep reading to discover five ways to enjoy the holiday without a partner.

Host a Galentine’s Day

If you’re not a fan of being alone this time of the year, gather up some of your friends and have a Galentine’s Day. You and your friends could have a TikTok inspired picnic, movie night, or happy hour over Zoom. This is the perfect opportunity to catch up with your gang and let them know they’re appreciated and loved!

Be Your Own Date

Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate with the traditional Valentine’s Day festivities. Be your own date and buy your own roses and chocolates. If you don’t feel comfortable going out to eat by yourself, support your local businesses and order take-out. Cherish this time with yourself and make the most out of this day!

Learn a New Recipe

One of my favorite things to do during February is learn a new recipe. This can range from baking macaroons to creating your own pasta. Last year, I tried baking red velvet brownies, and now they’re my go-to treat. As a challenge, you could even attempt to only use ingredients you already have at home to save some cash!

Get Outside

During this time of uncertainty and anxiety due to the pandemic, it’s important to get outside and take a break from the screen. Going on a walk, exploring local parks, or relaxing on the beach are all great options to get some Vitamin D! Additionally, you can share the love this season by bringing your furry companions with you.

Have a Self-Care Day

Valentine’s Day is about caring for the ones you love, so don’t forget to include yourself on that list. A self-care day could be reading that one book you’ve been wanting to read or having the ultimate spa day. Personally, I’m looking forward to lighting my rose-scented candle and rewatching Bridgerton on Netflix. Either way, make sure to show yourself some love this season.

While this time of year can feel lonely, there are plenty of ways to change your attitude and make it your new favorite holiday. Learn how to enjoy your own company this Valentine’s Day and indulge in the celebrations!
