Spoiler Alert!
In 2007, the first episode of Gossip Girl aired, providing a glimpse into the life of Manhattan’s elite. Gossip Girl follows the lives of the One Percent’s children, broadcasting their petty feuds, dramas and scandals. From following their lives at private school, to their experiences of parties, paparazzis and engagements to princes, haunting the characters’ every wrong move is “Gossip Girl”: an online platform that leaks all of the inside gossip.Â
Gossip Girl is one of my own guilty pleasures; I never get tired of it. Here are my top favourite episodes:Â
5. “The Goodbye Gossip Girl” (Season 2, Episode 25)Â
This season finale features the graduation at Constance Billard and St. Judes, in which everyone believes they are finally free of Gossip Girl, only to have the heat turned up on them and more of their deepest secrets exposed. Everyone bands together to try and expose Gossip Girl’s identity in hopes that college next year will be their fresh start. However, they are unsuccessful in finding Gossip Girl and resolve themselves to another year of secrets and scandals.Â
4. “Belle de Jour” (Season 4, Episode 1)Â
In this season premiere, Blair and Serena are off on their adventure in Paris. Dan is struggling to raise his supposed child with Georgina. Nate is experiencing all the fun of Chuck’s “Little Black Book”, meanwhile Chuck himself has gone off the grid. Honestly, this episode isn’t that special – I just love the scenes of Blair and Serena’s luxurious trip to Paris. As well, this episode, Blair has a date with a real life Prince!
3. “G.G.” (Season 5, Episode 13)Â
This is the 100th episode of the show, so you know they are going to go full out. The day has finally arrived for Blair’s wedding to Prince Louis. But in true Gossip Girl fashion, there are twists along the way. The only question is – as viewers of the show know that nothing ever goes according to plan – who will be the one to disrupt the joyous day? Chuck, who’s still in love with Blair? Georgina’s sudden return?Â
2. “Victor, Victrola” (Season 1, Episode 7)
Chuck and Blair’s relationship is a focal point of my favourite episodes. This episode is a classic from the first season, where Chuck and Blair first get together and Dan and Serena finally admit their feelings for each other. This episode shows Blair’s wild side; it’s always fun to see and ultimately sets the rest of her and Chuck’s relationship in motion.Â
1. “The Treasure of Serena Madre” (Season 3, Episode 11)Â
For this episode, I have one word, six letters: ICONIC. Although the show has many showstopping moments, this episode tops them all. The Thanksgiving scene never gets old, even when I rewatch it to death. I mean come on, the level of drama is utterly insane. Serena having an affair with a married congressman? Lily’s hidden secrets? The surprise visit from her mother? Not to mention, the fight between Jenny and Eric gets INTENSIFIED. This episode features everyone, and drama flows from every second of it, steadily brewing for the inevitably explosive Thanksgiving dinner.Â
Honourable Mention: “New York, I Love You XOXO” (Season 6, Episode 10)Â
Gossip Girl has one of the most disappointing ends to a television series. The anticipated reveal didn’t even make sense. How could Dan be Gossip Girl? When I rewatch episodes I want to scream, because there is no logical way this ending can be justified. However, despite the awful conclusion to the show, this episode features Chuck and Blair’s wedding, which was a moment the entire show built up to. As well as something I personally could not wait for. For that reason, I felt it deserved an honourable mention.Â
Regardless of what episode you watch, you’re in for a good time. So grab a bowl of popcorn, some candy and sit back and enjoy!
