Christmas Movies that I watched over Thanksgiving Break – that you should watch too!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Over Thanksgiving Break, I found myself watching a lot of Christmas movies. Of course, I watched the classics: Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, etc. But I also watched some new movies that I had never seen before! Here’s a list I’ve made of the top three that I watched that you should watch this Christmas Season, too.

Noelle (2019)

Noelle follows the story of Santa’s daughter, Noelle Kringle (Anna Kendrick) and her brother Nick Kringle (Bill Hader) in the wake of Santa’s passing. Together, they are working to make Nick the next Santa. Stressed from all of the pressure of becoming Santa, Nick is on the verge of a breakdown. Noelle suggests that Nick should take the weekend off, and things go downhill. How can there be a Christmas with no Santa? Join Noelle on the journey to find her brother and make sure that Christmas doesn’t get cancelled. Noelle can be streamed on Disney+. The trailer can be watched here.

Dash & Lily (2020)

Dash and Lily is a new Netflix original that takes place in New York at Christmas time. It follows two interconnected storylines, one of Dash (the boy who hates Christmas) and Lily (the girl that’s completely obsessed with everything Christmas), two polar opposites that find something in common by writing to each other through a mystery notebook. The rules of their game are (one) that they cannot meet in person and (two) they must complete the dares. Dash and Lily is a classic Christmas Rom-Com that is guaranteed to make you feel some Holiday Cheer! Watch the trailer here!

Happiest Season (2020)

A new movie on Hulu this year, Happiest Season follows a lesbian couple, Harper (Mackenzie Davis) and Abby (Kristen Stewart), as they make their way to Harper’s family home for Christmas. There is a twist for this couple, though. Since Harper hasn’t told her family that she is gay, Abby is forced to pretend that they are just friends. This comedic yet real story about coming out to your family is a great addition to your Christmas movie list this season. The trailer is linked here!

I hope you all enjoy these movies as much as I did! They are guaranteed to put you in a cheerful mood. After all, who doesn’t love a classic, cheesy Christmas movie with a happy ending? I know that I do!
