Let’s be honest, 2020 was not a good year. However, when the New Year comes, I will be able to say goodbye to the year in the best way.
I have been giving myself bottles of positivity on every New Year’s Day for the past two years. If something positive happens to me, I write it down on a paper when I have the chance. There are pieces of lined paper and printer paper written on with whatever writing utensil that I had available.
You can put the pieces of paper in anything: a ziploc bag, mason jar, etc. Michaels has some beautiful glass jars that I have been putting my slips of good in throughout the year.
Originally, I ordered a tiny jar from Amazon because I was worried that I would not be able to fill up a mason jar with the good things that happened to me. In less than six months, it was overflowing.
Anything that makes me smile or makes me happy, I put in my jar. There are a lot of moments that I wrote about and was instantly transported to the events when I read about them. I recommend this because at the end of the year, all the smiles come back.
Some highlights from 2019 include: I got my driver’s license, began working at Disneyland and met some amazing people while working on the happiest cruise that ever sailed.
In 2020, I was able to meet Tony Baxter before Disneyland closed, which is my main accomplishment from this year. This year’s jar has been less full than the year prior, but I am okay with that. I try to rationalize it by saying that I hardly left the house this year, which is true. The days that I did leave, I either got groceries or safely spent time with people that I care about.
This year had some great things for me. My friends and I have been in more contact than we had in the past years. I started majoring in English and began writing articles for Her Campus. As I am writing this, my first quarter at UCI is complete.
I may want to learn origami, so rather than pieces of paper in a jar, there would be tiny stars or swans. Some things that I hope to put in my 2021 jar include: the pandemic ended, I finished writing a novel or I got to watch the British television series Taskmaster being filmed in person.
As the year comes to a close, we do not know what is in store for us in 2021. Even disregarding political matters that have plagued the news outlets, the vaccines for the global pandemic have only just been administered. So long as 2020 does not get a sequel, as sequels are usually worse, I am looking forward to the new year and all the challenges along with it.
