After a whirlwind of a year, I think it’s only right to end it off with a bang. Why not make hot chocolate bombs for the whole family this year?

@chefsnetwork shows that there’s no limit to how big you can make these treats.

What are they you ask?

Hot chocolate bombs are gaining popularity this year and it’s totally changing the hot cocoa game. It is a chocolate ball filled with hot cocoa mix along with soft and sweet marshmallows that melt perfectly in a cup of hot milk. It brings so much joy as you watch it all unravel in your cup.

It is the perfect way to warm up on a crisp Christmas morning. However, with it being the winter season, hot chocolate is always a good choice during this time.

They are super easy to make as well! Many people who may have not been able to find it in stores are making it themselves! It also makes for a perfect gift for family and loved ones over the Christmas holidays!

Here’s JIra Williams explaining how to make it in six easy steps!

Step #1: Find a chocolate ball mould

Use a tray for chocolate ball moulds that have the appropriate size and shape for hemispheres to make your mould. Or, you can use individual plastic hemispheres sold at your local dollar store for your moulding.

Step #2: Mould the chocolate balls

Take melted chocolate and fill the moulds. As shown in JIra William’s video, you’ll want to spread the chocolate evenly to cover the mould and let it sit for about 10 minutes in the fridge

Tip!: It’s best to do a second coat after in order to not have a thin hemisphere which might help prevent the ball from breaking during the process.

Step #3: Fill the chocolate halves with hot cocoa

Once the mouldings have hardened it’s time to take them out and fill them with hot cocoa!

Warm a metal baking cookie sheet or a ceramic dinner plate and put it on the stove at a low heat for about 5 minutes. Take one half and melt the rim until it becomes even.

Tip!: It’s important to make sure your cookie sheet or dinner plate is warm and not too hot or else the chocolate will melt very fast and things will get messy!

Fill it with 1 tablespoon of your preferred hot chocolate mix. Then add your desired number of marshmallows on the top.

Want to make different hot chocolate flavours? Add crushed peppermint or a tablespoon of instant coffee! It’s all up to you on which kinds you want to make! With a simple search, it’s easy to find so many different flavours!

Step #4: Attach the halves together

Take the other chocolate ball and repeat the steps in step 3 to melt the rim and attach it on top of the filled half.

Tip!: If the chocolate starts to ooze out from the side, grab a napkin or cloth to wipe it clean.

Step #5: Decorate them!

This is the fun part where you can let your creativity take over and decorate your chocolate bomb anyway you want! You can use anything from edible lustre dust, crushed candy, icing and so much more.

Step #6: Be amazed

Tip!: Taking a spoon and pouring hot milk over it repeatedly will help it to melt faster
