Like many people stuck in quarantine, I decided to watch the 3 seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix over the summer. If you haven’t watched the show, I highly recommend it. But in the show, there’s an iconic character named Uncle Iroh, who offers wise advice throughout the series. So I have compiled some of his quotes from Avatar and its sequel: Legend of Korra. I’ll keep plot points at a minimum in case you want to watch the show later.
In no particular order, here are 10 quotes from Uncle Iroh:
1. “Failure is only the opportunity to begin again.”
Pretty self-explanatory. It reminds us that even if we fail in life, there’s always another chance.
2. “Sometimes, the best way to solve your own problems is to help someone else.”
From Legend of Korra, this quote reflects one of Uncle Iroh’s primary roles as a prominent supporting character. Empathy towards others is the best way to help ourselves.
“Good times become good memories, but bad times make good lessons.”
Remember that both good and bad times have value.
“It is important to draw wisdom from many different places.”
Especially during these turbulent times in our society, we must learn from diverse perspectives and experiences to better ourselves and the world.
“It’s time for you to look inward and start asking yourself the big question: who are you and what do you want?”
I think this is one of the most impactful quotes that he says. Deep self-reflection stuff. Reminds us to stay true to ourselves.
“Hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength.”
No thoughts here. Very coherent quote.
“Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not.”
It’s like the generic saying: “Life goes on.” Make do in the moment.
“Even in the material world, you will find that if you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see.”
Beautiful. Eloquent. What more can you ask for during dark times?
“The only thing better than finding something you are looking for is finding something you weren’t looking for at a great bargain!”
Who doesn’t like a good surprise bargain? I know little deals bring me a lot of happiness.
“Sick of tea? That’s like being sick of breathing!”
A fun one for the last one. How can we forget the hot leaf juice?
