There are a number of Instagram accounts who post graphics with positive messages on them, and I happen to follow a lot of them. However, one particular account never fails to share just the right thing at just the right time. We’re Not Really Strangers (@werenotreallystrangers) is quite possible the best account I follow right now; never toxic, always real, and always relevant, if you’re looking for some words of wisdom throughout your day, you gotta follow them.

The account was created by a woman named Koreen, who created a card game that – when played – allows the players to open up to each other and get to know how they’re really doing.

The posts on the account are as aesthetically pleasing as they are uplifting, and in all honesty can sometimes feel like a slap in the face in the best way possible. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been feeling down because of something someone else did (or didn’t) do, only to open Instagram to see an image reading something like “Don’t manage their behavior, manage your expectations,” in red lettering on some random wall.

Beyond the Instagram page and card game, We’re Not Really Strangers (WNRS) also has a free text message subscription… again, it’s eerie how applicable some of the text messages they send out feel. Perhaps I’m overthinking something, or worrying my friends hate me, then ding a text from WNRS: “Your anxiety is lying to you.”

What I love about WNRS is that it is based around the concept that we’re all much more similar than we tend to believe. We all go through periods where we feel lost, lonely, and confused; something about the page, about Koreen’s creation, feels very comforting. To receive a text message or see a post from a stranger that just hits home makes you think about how connected we all are.

If you don’t yet, I highly recommend you follow this account, and/or sign up for texts from We’re Not Really Strangers. Some of the messages I’ve seen from WNRS have helped me through some of my worst days, and I hope you find some peace in them as well.
