TikTokā¦ whether we have the app or not, weāve all heard of it by now. Recently since COVID-19, I have been at home with lots of time on my hands. I told myself āoh I would never get TikTokā and āIām in college, I’m too old for thatā. Yet, here I am downloading the app. Originally, I downloaded the app for fun. I was just bored at home and wanted some entertainment. I didnāt have an account. I just wanted to see what all the hype was about. Then I wanted to be able to like other peopleās TikToks, so I finally made an account. This was the start of my TikTok addiction.
At first, I wanted to make fun, silly TikToks just for my entertainment. The more I made, though, the more followers I got. While most of my followers were weird, old men, letās be honest, a fan is a fan. And maybe, just maybe, I could get famous. I thought āwell, maybe I could be famous,ā then āno, thatās ridiculous,ā but then right back to āwell, maybeā. After I started making more TikToks a little bit more seriously, I realized that while I thought I was born to be a star on the app, I would never go viral on TikTok. I had to face reality and ended up just turning my account on private mode.Ā
However, as a current TikTok user I do invest my time into some of the most famous TikTok influencers. Some I like but others not so much. Letās start with the Hype House. If you donāt know what the Hype House is, basically itās a mansion in Los Angeles where a select group of young TikTokers live to create content. This includes influencers such as Charlie D’amelio, Addison Ray, Chase Hudson (LilHuddy) and many more. Three weeks ago did I know who these people were? No. Now, will I click on a Cosmopolitan article about Lil Huddy possibly cheating on his girlfriend Charlie Dāamelio with no hesitation? Absolutely.Ā
I must admit that influencers on TikTok are very cringy most of the time, but itās a cringe where you canāt help looking, even though you desperately don’t want to. I have personally experienced this the most with the eboys on TikTok. Even the word āeboyā is cringy, as this already basically sets them up for failure. Chase Hudson clearly falls into this eboy category. These eboys usually have earrings, look emo and post TikToks trying to be sexy, but always turn out only to be really cringy. Maybe itās because Iām too old to be on TikTok anyways, but the eye rolls, winks and stares at the camera from eboys make me really uncomfortable – but maybe thatās just me.
More than anything, the content on TikTok is fascinating. While the content may not always be Ā good, I must say itās always interesting. Nonetheless, the app is very addicting and I spend hours on it every day. Do I regret downloading it? Not one bit. And if you already have the app, Iām sure you understand. However, if you have not downloaded the app yet, but are thinking about downloading it, make sure to be cautious. It is essential to understand how addicting the app is, and that hours of your life are about to disappear both watching and making TikToks.
